I KNEW it Was Too Good to be True!

Things like this just get under my skin like nobody's business. Let me tell you. It's the principle of things of course.
The wife and I were at our local Schnuck's grocery store to use our rain check for the $6.99 Chi-Chi's Long Island Iced Tea which is normally $9.99 there, and we did manage to stock up four bottles of the stuff.
It doesn't go bad. It's booze.
I also wanted to pick up three marinated pork loins that were on sale for $5 each, which is a good deal for those.
Near the produce section, along the main wall, they had Schnuck's canned vegetables advertised for 84 cents a can. We only use canned when it comes to green beans and sliced carrots.
Normally I pay 89 cents currently at Ruler Foods for sliced carrots, so I thought, if I can save 5 cents a can, plus get 5% cash back on Discover (we're still in the bonus quarter for grocery stores), PLUS get 1% back from Schnuck's rewards and another 5% back from Upside, this was a really good deal bringing the cans down to 75 cents.
I got home and checked the receipt and they were actually $1.14 a can, which is outrageous. With all the discounts, that brings it down to $1.02 a can, 13 cents more than what I normally pay.
Since I bought two cans I am out 26 cents.
I called to ask about it and she said someone wrongly put the carrots with the corn, green beans and other "select" items on sale, and she would have them moved, and gave me her name and said if I go to customer service, they will refund me the 60 cents I was "overcharged."
It's not that it is that big of a deal, but in my world every penny matters. I don't see 60 cents as 60 cents. I see it as 64 cents invested. So I will be going back for my refund.

It is right down the street. About 1/2 mile. So, I actually did the math, and it works out to be about 10-12 cents. My estimations are based on $3.50 per gallon and an average of 15 miles per gallon. I will still be up 50-48 cents when all is said and done. Thanks for asking. lol
It costs me roughly 23 cents per mile. So WORST case scenario I am giving back 11 1/2 cents to get my 60 cents back. Gain? 48 1/2 cents.
That is ALMOST two found abandoned shopping carts at Aldi.
I did not get rich by accident, if you want to know. This has been a VERY calculated and defined path that has gotten me there. Just saying.

That’s the sort of thing that really annoys me. When you bought what you think is a bargain and it turns out you’ve spent over the odds. I’d be as miffed as you. Fortunately it wasn’t much and you’re getting your money back, so all is good apart from the inconvenience.

Look at it this way. Get fenagled out of 60 cents 100 times in a lifetime and that's $60. May not seem like a lot, but every penny matters. We work hard to get every single one of them. I am not just going to give them away.
Then imagine that if the display was misleading in ALL of their stores, and Schnuck's has 115 stores, and 100 customers in each of those stores bought two cans like I did, Schnucks makes $6,900 they did not earn.
Now, go one step further and examine the importance of customers not walking away from a mere 60 cents. Walmart has 10,500 stores, and say they overcharge 100 customers in each store by 60 cents. Walmart makes another $630,000 no one apparently cares about.
When a business overcharges you, no matter by how much...you get your money. lol

I thought of you on Friday, Jim.
I stopped by my local grocery, the closest to the house, for lettuce. That was all I needed. This particular store often has several stands/carts/ whatever items, marked down close to the checkouts. Of course, I always look at them. I don't often really find a bargain, but once in a while, there is a good buy on something we use. Anyway...there were two big carts piled high with a generic brand of mac and cheese, on sale for 25 cents a box. One lady had a firm grip on one entire cart of it, heading for the check out. Another lady had another one about the same time. They got into an argument over which cart could possibly have more boxes of this stuff...and I feared the outcome might not be pretty. They both wanted all they could get!
The funny part was they finally settled on pulling the carts off to the side, and actually counting the boxes, so they could both have the same number of them. I lost track as I was paying for my lettuce, but the last I heard, was ''58, 59, 60'' so I am assuming that they both got about 60 boxes. By my ability to add up grocery costs in my head (years of practice) they both had $15 worth of a house brand of mac and cheese. That's a LOT, I hope they either had a lot of people to eat it or a good place to store it!
My son loves mac and cheese. I told him about this big bargain, and he said he had tried that brand several times and it was terrible. So, I didn't feel badly about missing out on this bargain! But I did think of you, and somehow you would have probably bought both carts of it!

It's good that you can a refund.
If it's a sales item, I usually confirm the price with the cashier before I buy it.

You should definitely go for the refund. My only thought here would be going there just for the refund could be a loss considering fuel and indirect expenses. However, if you are going on that route for buying something , you could stop by and get that refund. I am pretty sure that would have been your thought process. I do agree with you every cent counts . There have been similar incidents that occured to me and we did get the refunds wherever possible. Normally the supermarkets would ask us to buy something and we would make sure to buy something which is cheaper out there and useful for us.
