Do your fingers swell during the night?

I have noticed that my rings are tighter in the morning than at night. In fact, this morning I struggled to pull off one ring this morning. I wasn't even up yet, but it was so tight, I struggled to get it off. I did move it to another finger, but didn't push it past the first joint. Now, I have noticed this, but this is the first time I had to take one off before I actually got up. I haven't worn them all day and since supper had a lot of salt in it, I'm not putting them on either. So, does this happen to you, even when you don't have a salty dinner? If I normally have salty dinners it would be one thing... but I don't.

I sometimes experience it. I think high sodium chloride intake can trigger this.

I'm not a big salt eater, last night's supper was pretty salty, but the roommate cooked it and it was very tasty, but salty.

@Shavkat I have heard certain Asian sorts of food do have more salt than some Western foods. However, normally I do not add a lot of salt to most meals. Certain greens, spinach, cabbage and such, I do add salt to, but I still don't add as much as other people. I used to add salt to noodle water but stopped some time ago. My wife, when she was discovered to have kidney failure, we cut salt way down even more than before. I was already doing it, but she had to do it and it was hard for her.

@ElicBxn Whenever I consume a bit salty food, I usually manage it to drink a lot of fluid. I do think that some local dishes in my country are quite salty, but they do taste good.

I don't wear rings so I don't know, but my face swells, especially the eyes. I look funny when I wake up. I think just lying down for hours to sleep might be the reason.

Ya know, back in my 30s, I'd get up in the morning and my face would be all puffy. I said I thought I looked like Mick Jagger. Back then, not now.

@somewitch I really try to not eat too much salt. I might've the night before and I know what the roommate made was overly salted. I have been trying to not eat too much salt today.

@ElicBxn Aww, that's cute! If you think it's water retention, salt can be the cause but there are several other factors you may want to look into. But I'm not too concerned if the swelling goes away during the day.

I used to take my rings off before going to bed but the arthritic knuckles precluded that. I can sometimes remove them (the rings, not the knuckles) by lifting my arms above my head and shaking my hands, to reduce the blood flow.

I never put them on yesterday after having so much trouble. I'll give my body a day or so to flush the salt out of my body.

This morning was definitely the worst ever. I barely got that one ring off! Normally I have to have it on the middle finger because it is too loose for other ones.

If you made a drastic change to your diet, your body could rebell even if for a little while. If you took into much soidum, warter build up is common. Hopefully it resolves itself.

I know about sodium which is why I'm not putting them on tonight because of the saltiness of dinner.

Mine does not swell but it kinda stiiff and a bit painful when I stretch out my fingers. You think I am getting old? Hehehe I guess so.

Mine are also stiff and painful, but clenching my fist is more painful than trying to straightening them out. Well, except for my middle finger on my left hand which is, I believe, becoming triggered.

Honestly, my new GP, who isn't an M.D., is very unhelpful.
