A Delicious Use of Ham Glaze

I tend to get spiral hams dirt cheap. I mean, usually under $1 a pound, when, when it comes to spiral hams is dirt cheap. But every time I make one, the one thing I never use is the glaze packet. Not sure why. I guess I just like ham as it is. But I always save the glaze packets. As I have said many times around here, nothing goes to waste. We like carrots. But carrots are good a little sweet. And what is better than using a little bit of the ham glaze packets in batches of carrots? Nothing. We get sweet, glazed carrots often around here using a tablespoon or so of ham glaze added and it is always delicious, with a little of butter to boot. Say what you want, it's just good eats.

I always love using carrots and should not be wasted. I had tried to use this will some beef and added them up with sauce. I tried the Chinese Eggplant Red Braised with carrots. It blended perfectly.

Beef and sweet do sometimes go together. I find it is better to incorporate sweet into chicken or pork, though.

I have the same sentence: Nothing goes to waste. And that goes for food and leftovers, for clothes and even for parts of furniture. Luna´s luxury home was made out of scraps of many things that Humberto´s son found in my garage.

Same here. Old clothes become rags, containers get used and reused. Not only does it save money, but it helps the planet too.

@porwest I wholly agree. When Luna came to my life I went to pet shops to buy a house for her. They were all very ugly, small and expensive. Andrés was living here then and he said that he´d look around in the garage. He did not have to buy a single nail. He used scraps from my dining room floor and made the most beautiful dog house I´ve seen. We only bought her an awesome mattress, thick and comfy and she has the best house. The house was free.

@marguicha Sometimes that is the best way. As they say, reuse, repurpose, recycle.

Sounds like a good change of pace to me. I do make glazed carrots. I have a ham packet in the fridge right now.

I would never have thought to use the packets for this, but I had a couple lying around and never could figure out what I was going to do with them, and then a light went on. lol

I love carrots on macaroni soup or one of the side dishes that my mom sometimes cook: carrots, corns with butter. My mom's side dishes is also best with mashed potato. have a great day.

Carrots and mashed potatoes actually go very well together. Your mom's side dishes I bet are very good.

I have had two packets sitting around for a long time wondering what the heck I would ever do with them. Glad to find a use.

I usually pick them up on off season. Wally World puts them on reduced sale a couple different times throughout the year.

@porwest We don't have Ruler here. Lol. We have Piggly Wiggly, Walmart, Winn Dixie, Dollar General Grocery, Thrift Way. If we drive an hour we have Target.

@thislittlepennyearns What? No Publix? Even though Publix is WAY overpriced. And surely you at least have an Aldi there, don't you?

The last one I got was at Ruler for around 89 cents a pound. It was a steal.

Nice way to use up the glaze, and I can get several batches out of it since I am only using a little at a time.

I make glazed carrots using brown sugar and butter, but I'll definitely save that pack of sauce that comes with the ham next time.

That was the way I was doing it before which was got me to thinking. That's pretty much all the packets are. Mostly brown sugar.

Vince does something nice with carrots. I think it involves honey and sesame seeds.

It's a good way to use up those packets if you are not using them to glaze the ham.
