Short story: Building self-confidence depends on your connecting yourself to God

Johns pastor gave him some good advice. Stay close to God

John Spruiker was having a chat with his pastor about self-confidence. John had never been a particularly confident person, and his counsellor had told him that he had little self-belief, or faith, in himself. Work on building these facets to yourself, he had told him. John decided to get a second opinion on what he should really do to overcome his lack of self-confidence. The pastor told him: “True self-confidence requires belief in God, not just self-belief, or belief, in self.” “The really confident person is never overzealous in self-pride, but remains, at all times, humble.” “The person is never aggressive, or abrasive, in their confidence, but remains always courageously humble.” “It is faith, and trust, in God that builds this type of self-confidence in you.” “Now, God is love, and we can connect self-confidence back to love too.” “Confidence is the amount of love in you that you are living from, and when you do not live fully from love, you can never feel confident then either.” “The greatness of love is never little-ised by yourself if you place that love within God. Trying to place it only in yourself minimises it entirely, as you are nothing within yourself, but everything within God.” “Be God in you, and allow love to be God in you.” “You can never be self-confident for real, without your connecting yourself to love, as God’s confidence in you then lives in you too.” Photo Credit: The photo used in this article was sourced from the free media site, pixabay.com John's pastor gave him some good advice. Stay close to God, and confidence will stay close in you then too.

I have been close to God and continue to help me day by day. A good connection with Him through prayers.

Yes, prayer, and thinking of/on God does help us to have a relationship with God. I am often thinking of/on God, and trying to bring him more into my life. It is good that you are close to God.

It is one thing to believe in yourself but it is God Almighty that make us great. Some persons make the error of believing that they are the nest of all time without giving God the credit.

Yes, I agree. Some are too rapt up in themselves, with an inflated self-belief, and this is never a good way to live one's life, as it leads to greed, and selfishness. We need to connect to God, and see that he is the real engine behind all that we do.

I will agree on this from my personal experience, me learning his words daily is giving me enough self-confidence to over come so many issues i had and as well as him showing and letting me know there is nothing i cant do if i put my mind to it.

Yes, I agree. Reading spiritually empowering words increases our faith, and self-confidence. While, some have said that there is nothing we cannot do, I feel this statement has to be aligned with God's guidance, and plans, for our lives too. If we just follow our mind, and ignore our heart's direction for us, we will usually go wrong, and fall, at some stage, as we are just chasing worldly riches, and acclaim, rather than our doing God's will, and living in service of that will, in our life.

Yes, belief in self must accompany belief in God, as otherwise, self-belief, can lead to pride, and a swelled head, but connection to God keeps us humble, as we realise that it is really God that allows us to achieve things in our life, never ourselves, on our own.

I have a syncretic approach to faith and I think this is very true. Buddhism, for instance, encourages people to not cling to their self but recognize we are all manifestations of the same divine source, created to serve the divine by embodying love. More or less. Back to Christianity, God is unconditional love and it makes sense to be self-confident once you allow this emotion to flow through you. It becomes easier find value within ourselves as well as purpose in our lives.

That's nicely put. I agree with all you said. I also try to study various religions to understand their teachings, and to get a wider sense of who God is in connection to them. Yes, God is the source of love, and God has the perfect confidence to always perfectly love. When we live from the same love, flowing through us, we will be confident in life, and in our loving too.
