9/25/24 - Update On My Husband

PT went well as usual. For the first time my husband peeked into the cafeteria while they were playing Bingo. I guess some women were raising a ruckus and fighting amongst themselves.
Not much to report. The woman in charge of medical records wants me to drop off a copy of the judge's decision before she will provide my husband's medical records. I will do that Saturday when I go to see my husband. I also plan on visiting him on the 3rd of October which is our 54th anniversary. Sigh.
He wondered if he would be allowed to go out to a restaurant. I don't know how that would work; but he said he would ask about it.
Thank you for your continued prayers, support and thoughts.

That would be nice, if you can manage to get him out to a restaurant. Can the cousin manage to get him in and out of the car ok? That might really perk him up a lot! If they don't recommend that he go, you could have them put a small table in his room and bring a nice steak dinner or any dinner that he wants, and all of you eat together to celebrate the anniversary. Either way, you can still make it special, I am sure you would both enjoy that so much.

I don't know how he'd walk into the restaurant. Maybe with a walker. We'll have to see what they say. He says he doesn't want a take-out steak dinner. It won't be the same as fresh from the kitchen.

Couldn't he just go in his wheelchair? Walking in and out of a restaurant, that's a lot different than walking in PT with a therapist and a gait belt. Not nearly the support, which is why I thought he would want to go in a wheelchair.
Hey, it may not be exactly the same as fresh from the kitchen, but it would be a good dinner anyway! You just might have to tell him that's what's going to happen, so to get out his ketchup bottle and be ready!

@MarieCoyle His 2nd cousin cannot lift anything above a certain weight; and the wheelchair is too heavy. I can't handle it either; so the wheelchair idea is out. Thank you for the suggestion though.

I hope that there's a way to manage a trip to a restaurant for you both to celebrate your anniversary. If not, I like the idea that Marie @MarieCoyle suggested. It might not be as good as going out but at least it would be special.

Well, I was told when I asked about taking my husband out, I'd have to get it cleared by his doctors. So, that's something you'd have to do.

@LindaOHio Well, the doctor is typically one to say it's safe for him to go out. So, I'd give him a call and ask how things are done. But, a short outting is typically okay for most residence. I know it's rehab, he's not a prisinor.

@kaylachan I think it best if he stays put for now. It could affect the appeal in which we will say that he still needs skilled nursing.

if you have some extra help with you he should be able
to go to a restaurant if he's able to, I know they let me
when I was in rehab but there were times we stayed
out too long & they about discharged me for it. OPPS

@2ndchances24 It's best he stays put until after the appeal. It could affect the outcome if he goes out.

Seeing people act that way sure would not encourage him to get involved. One of the Long Term Care Facilities I worked at would help load residents into private vehicles for special outings. People who could not help themselves as much as your husband. A "transport" wheel chair is light weight and folds and would be the best choice for getting into a nice restaurant. We would help load a resident during wheat harvest and his loved ones would drive him around looking at the progress. If your husband wants to go, and you and your housekeeper feel up to helping him, then there is no reason for him not to go.

That would be good if he could. I guess the housekeeper's daughter could help if need be. I guess she and her mother would be good though as it would be a lot to manage two wheelchairs.

@MarieCoyle I don't require a wheelchair unless it's over 50 feet or so. I can walk with my cane and sit down in between.

I wonder if the facility has any lightweight wheelchairs..hmm. Food for thought.

I wondered about that, too. If two people could help, it would be a lot easier.

@Shavkat Due to the appeal I am working on, it's best that he stays at the facility.

Old ladies fighting at a bingo game? Say it isn’t so!
Hope he can go, but I’m guessing he won’t be allowed to for legal reasons. My aunt has Alzheimer’s but right now we can take her out for dinner because she has no mobility issues.

@LindaOHio — I know that not because I have them (my walker has wheels and hand brakes!) but because they actually stock them in “medical supplies” now!
