Karam , the Adivasi tribal feast is celebrated sometime in the mid-September. However, for the convenience of the community it is shifted forward a few days. In our parish church it will be celebrated tomorrow.
The gist of the story is that Karam the holy tree was dishonored by a family of seven brothers. As the punishment of the sin troubles after troubles fell upon the families. To atone the sin a special worship was organized by the brothers and their families. As a result, the troubles left them.
The feast has been Christianized after the teachings of the Second Vatican Council. As the cross of Jesus Christ became the instrument of salvation from sin and its effects, the cross is honored with ceremonies attached with this feast.
There are songs with special tunes and dances going with this feast. Tomorrow, I will be playing those tunes during the service as well.
