Now you see it...

For a while I had a mark on my left arm, more like a large freckle than a mole. At first I didn't think anything of it, especially as I have lots of regular freckles, but then in one photo (of me holding a slow worm) I could see that the mark did seem quite noticeable and wondered whether it was something I should worry about. The advice generally is just to keep an eye on any moles and get any changes checked out, and it wasn't a big thing so I didn't want to make a fuss about nothing, but still, it wasn't always there... Then I remembered that many years ago, my Dad developed a mole on his cheek. It was quite dark, very slightly raised, and about 1 cm or so in diameter. I don't remember it appearing but I know it wasn't always there, it isn't there in my parents' wedding photos. Anyway I remember him saying that someone had suggested he put castor oil on it. So he came home with a little bottle, and dabbed a bit on every day, and in due course the mole disappeared and never came back. So a few months ago I thought I would try the same remedy. I bought a bottle of castor oil from the 'health food shop' and rubbed a little bit on with a cotton bud once or twice a day for several weeks, and sure enough, mine has gone too! I have no idea why this should work or why it isn't ever suggested in the medical advice. Has anyone else come across this or tried it? I hope the picture works, I tried to put the before and after photos together. All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2024.

My hairdresser swears by castor oil and uses it for any little imperfections that she notices, and it seems to work for her. I am glad that it worked for you as well.

I'm going to try dabbing it on a few more places too. I wonder how it works?

I wonder how it works? And why it doesn't affect normal skin around?

@Fleura It is said that castor oil promotes lipolysis and inhibits sebaceous gland secretion.I don't think you can dab it on normal skin.

It doesn't take long to dab a bit on at bed time.

I don’t know how it works, but I started looking into castor oil for its health properties, and it is amazing. I now know it can be used for what you said!

Hmm... I may just have to try this on some of my moles. I'll get back to you if it works.

I use castor oil a lot! I use it for general skin care. It's supposed to have anti inflammatory properties - it could help with healing. I haven't tried on moles, but it has worked to take care of these corn things near my toes.

I do have some moles. The good thing is, they are not getting bigger.

It's amazing that this works but so many of these simple things do. I guess some are too simple, too unable to be expalined for the boffins to suggest them.
