I heard this expression in the news this morning. It seems we are going to be hit by an atmospheric river the expression makes me imagine a river falling from the sky
We are having heavy rain and there are alerts because of the bad weather in my area. Heavy rain, flooding and landslides are expected today and in the coming days
How is the weather in your place? Have you heard this expression before? Do you know what it means?
View from my parents' house, as you can see it is a wonderful day to Stay at home.

We had already experienced a lot of discomfort , sufferings and frustration brought by the heavy downpours due to strong typhoons which devasted those places where they made a landfull.

I am not familiar with that forecast.
I agree with you it does make it sounds like a river will drop from the skies.
Here it is sunny and mild, an extension of the warmth that we felt in the summer, very appreciated as it will turn cold soon enough and there will be no turning back.
It seems like our transitional seasons of spring and autumn are becoming warmer and drier every year.

I've heard this expression many times. It seems like weather forecasters keep making up new names and terms and then using them as scare tactics to make people want to watch or listen to the latest weather stories. I always think they do it to increase their ratings.
We have another hurricane on its way to hit our area, just a week after a previous hurricane hit us. It is very, very unusual for multiple hurricanes to hit in the same area so close together. The last time this happened in our area was back in 2004, when 3 hurricanes hit us in the span of one month.
There are two hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean right now that will eventually make their way to Europe. I was thinking about you, and wondering if these hurricanes will make it to your area. You and I were talking recently about hurricanes hitting Portugal. I'm not sure what the long term forecast track is for those two hurricanes, other than the fact that they will eventually end up in Europe. Probably not as hurricanes at that point, but bad storms nonetheless. Maybe it is all tied to the atmospheric river you are experiencing now.

@nela13 Climate change is making our planet's weather worse and worse every year. What used to be unusual and rare is now the norm.

Due to the climate change we all will face more extreme weather conditions. Another hurricane in your area isn't good at all, hope it doesn't cause damages. Stay safe.
I think you are right, the hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean are surely tied to this awful weather we are having.

Well hearing of this for the first time. Quite hilarious indeed !
Stay safe in the bad weather and heavy rains.
Landslides imply that you are in a region that is slightly elevated.
Do you normally have heavy rains at this time of the year?

These heavy rains aren't a normal thing here but in the last years it has became more often, maybe it has to do with the climate change.
