Card Snobs

United States

Happy Wednesday Everyone! it's a beautiful day here in my little corner of the myLot world. The sun is shining Next week if my Aunts birthday so I went out early to buy her a card. Cards have become so expensive that I went to the Dollar Tree and got a very pretty card. It's not a Hallmark but I've never been one to buy a card just because it's Hallmark. I go by what it says. I used to have a co-worker who was a card snob. She would open the envelope and immediately turn it over to look at the back to see if it was Hallmark and the price. If it wasn't Hallmark or the price wasn't exactly expensive she would be annoyed. Sometimes I wondered if she ever even read the saying inside since she already formed her opinion based on the price and brand. I like to give and receive cards and am always thankful for being remembered on whatever occasion the card giving/receiving is for. Are you a card snob or do you know anyone who is?

I totally go for the message. I’ve bought obscure brands before simply because I loved what was inside. I think it might actually be odd how much thought I put in a card.

Nope it's not odd. I've stood in front of cards and read almost all of them before making a decision. The message has to reflect the feeling

When I receive a card, I usually read the message inside. Don't care if it's a Hallmark card or not.

I'm with you. I'm appreciative of any card I get because it reflects that someone cared enough to send it

Wow that coworker you knew was a spoiled brat. I love how cheap the cards can be at dollar general and dollar tree but they are so nice.

I agree that the cards at Dollar Tree and Dollar General are nice and not the least bit cheap looking. Yes that old co-worker wasn't the nicest person

I never do either. It's the message that has the meaning not how much someone spent on the card

No, as far as I know never come across anyone like that! There are many card producers here (many of them much nicer than Hallmark, which could be considered rather ordinary!) so a card could come from all sorts of different places. Like you, I like the thought that someone has taken the trouble to send it. And if it has a pretty picture or a funny cartoon that's relevant to me, so much the better.

I definitely agree with you both for the sentiment in the card and I aways enjoy a funny card too

It is like only going for branded clothes. I go for what suits me.

We still sell cards but the world is quickly changing and our aunts who are now older love to receive a dollar on their birthdays, lol! It is funny but true and we often give them a dollar if we have extra and they are so happy about it.

I give and receive cards from the heart also, and always go with the message that it conveys. I have never turned a card over to inspect the brand, it does not matter, more importantly the message and the note inside from the sender.

Same with me. I don't care how much a person spends or even if they made the card themselves. It's the thought and message that counts. My co-worker was a piece of work and everything to her was status, etc. She was very self-centered and basically not a very nice person over-all

I haven't bought a card for a long, long time. And I do not go for the brand name, it's the messages that the card wants to convey that is important

That was a very rude attitude of her, who cares the brand or how much it cost?! The person remember your birthday and that is what matters. Here we don't usually receive cards.

I"m not a card snob. It's the thought that counts. I get all my cards from the Current Catalog. Much cheaper online. Have a good day.

Since I retired 8 years ago I make my own cards. I wonder what the card snob would think of my cards.

I buy the cheapest cards I can find as long as they are appropriate. They only get thrown out in the end.

I didn't even know cards could be branded. The cards I tend to appreciate the most are handmade, but in the end it's the fact someone thought about me that matters.
