Two of my new plants

I’ve been trying to get a bit more colour into what little garden we have and today I had a fun half-hour at a nursery. We now have two ficus in pots, one either side of the ‘back door’ or the door on the side which faces a school. You might remember that I took out some plants and lots of white stones from a narrow garden bed which leads down from the other door. That’s now planted with six gaura bushes (Gaura lindheimeri). The lady in the nursery called them butterfly bushes but it seems other plants are also known by that name. Three troughs are now planted with bright yellow calendulas/marigolds and I have a tomato plant as well. Now it’s raining gently on all of them so hopefully they’ll get a good start in their new home. The photo is of the ficus plants.

They look nice and I love the red pots. I would recommend not fertilizing the butterfly bush. I had one that was growing just fine until I got the brilliant idea to fertlize it. Let it be a warning!

Some plants have no gratitude at all! I'll remember that advice. Thanks for the warning.

The red pots look nice I think. They are some sort of plastic and very light. They have a little shelf about an inch from the bottom which I guess is to help them drain easily.

Thanks. If we keep them in these pots, they shouldn't get above 2 metres which would be okay in that position.

I had a lovely ficus in Vancouver. I rescued it from someone's trash. It lost a lot of leaves, which I figured was due to shock of being moved from one apartment to another. I didn't care, it was free. But I took it home and repotted it and nurtured it and it sprang back to life. It was too big to take with me when I moved to Ontario so I sold it. Also had a lovely avocado tree that I started from the seed. It too was too big to come with me. Maybe I'll try to start another one if I ever buy some avocadoes.

I've heard a few tales about people starting off avocadoes from seed. I should try that too.

Thanks. There are various ficus I think. There was others there with very glossy, dark leaves but we chose this one.

Haha. I knew you were a polite lady. The inside is all tiles so I don't worry too much. I slip my shoes off if they are wet and/or dirty but don't usually worry too much.

That could be so. I bought another one today - same name but a different colour and taller but maybe it's just a bit older.
