In the middle of summer when it was 100F outside. She walked into the store with a long winter coat on. She was very thin. I told my cashier to keep an eye on her she is going to put stuff in her pockets and leave without paying. Lock the doors if she looks fat.
She went up and down the aisles and even got mad when I was in the same row as her. Finally she was fat with all the stuff in her pockets and up to the front doors she went.
The cashier locked the doors. She got really mad when I told her to empty her pockets and leave. Than she asked how did I know???
I told her you came in thin and was going to leave fat. She tried to force the doors opened and when that did not work she emptied her pockets on the counter. I took her coat and made sure there was nothing left in it.
Than we unlocked the doors and told her to have a nice day which set her off. She left cussing at us.

You are so brave, I really don't know what to do when I saw or know someone is stealing something. It is easy to tell the staff, but I don't know what to do if that is my store.

She certainly was not playing with a full deck thinking no one would know she was stealing on a hot day wearing a winter coat,

If she has gotten away with it with someone else, she must think everyone will let her pass.

I hope she wasn't homeless and needy. Have a good day.

That would never fly anymore. You would have to get a cop involved.

@thislittlepennyearns Now it would be wrong. Of course I was not going to let her go out the door with the store's items.
Like I told the homeless guy. Give me the shampoo and body wash and I will buy it for you. He pulled out from under his shirt and I bought the two items for him. And off he went.

All a cop does is write them a ticket and let them go. They end up getting away with it with a small fine. I was suppose to just let them walk out the door. But I never did. I had the door locked and they had to leave the item behind or not leave the store.
No one ever told me that is wrong you can not do that. Of course you are not suppose to do that.

@jstory07 The rules have changed. Think about how offended people get.She would have had a case on her hands against you for touching her possessions. I'm not saying its right or wrong, I'm just saying its a thing.

Almost a similar incident had happened in our town. Two women entered in a jewellary shop and stole some earrings.Their activities were caught on CCTV and they were caught while leaving the shop.

Here you are suppose to just let them leave with the stuff. There is no way I would do that.
