There are three restaurants in this town that have went under. We have went to all three before and I liked the food in two of them and not good food in the third one. I hope my favorite restaurants do not go under. My favorite are Apple Bees and Sizzlers . I like Applebee's because their ribs are good and Sizzlers has good seafood. I like Denny's because of their breakfast specials. They have a good deal going on right now. We went there the other day and the place was almost empty. We used to go and all the tables were full. I hope restaurants and fast food places are not going to start going under to. Some fast food places are not making any money. We will have to see what happens.

It's economy slowdown every where. Here too, market is badly impacted as the purchasing power of consumers are going down. Job insecurity and recession are making many businesses run slow, suffer huge loss and shut down

@jstory07 It's a bad situation here. People are loosing jobs because many mundane jobs are now taken care by AI. Economic slowdown is evident everywhere. If people will not have money, purchasing and eating out will reduce. Moreover, these restaurants have to pay a lot for their rent and maintenance of ambience is also a costly affair.

Inflation is killing everyone, even the businesses. The problem is there's a limit to what they can pass along in terms of prices. Which is another reason Harris' BS idea that price gouging is a thing is exactly that. BS. Consumers are making decisions to not do certain things or buy certain things because of the prices, and if these businesses have to sell at a loss or continue to lose money, they will have no choice but to close doors. To top it all off, many states are going to $15 minimum wages, and when you couple that with inflation, it's no WONDER businesses have to close. Money cannot just be printed. So, businesses are struggling to keep up with nonsense just like the rest of us are. There is a breaking point, and for many businesses, especially small ones, that breaking point is when you are just operating to stay afloat but not making any money, or worse, bleeding money. That's a sure recipe for disaster.

When wages go up the business pass it to the consumer.

@jstory07 Which is EXACTLY my point. If you are already dealing with inflation, and you add in higher wages, you can only pass along so much of the higher costs before consumers stop doing business with you, refusing to pay the higher prices. As a result, businesses receive less customers, make less money, and eventually go bankrupt. Which is exactly what is happening. In the restaurant business it is being hardest felt right now because eating out is mostly a luxury people are simply saying no to. Denny's went bankrupt recently. So did Red Lobster. Applebees is considering filing and so is TGIFridays. This will get worse before it gets better because consumers have reached their breaking point due to inflation which is killing them. I think many, many layoffs are coming down the pike as well in other businesses. At some point you can no longer pass on higher prices and especially if you are in the consumer discretionary business, you're not going to be able to sell your products and it's going to have a ripple effect on the economy and jobs.

I wish we had Sizzlers here. I remember eating there when we lived in California, but Oklahoma doesn’t have any. We have plenty of Applebee’s though, and they are always busy.

That sounds bad. I hope there are still remaining restaurants nearby to your place. There are many shops going under in our city but hairdressers and cellphone shops are getting more and more every time I go to the city.
