I am trying to play nice. I really am. I went to the Orthopedic Doc for the second time this morning. He said he did have the results of the ultrasound on my swollen left leg. He said he wouldn't do the knee replacement due to not knowing what the reason was for that swollen thigh- swollen clear to my toes, actually. We wait another month to talk with another orthopedic surgeon- same practice, older guy. I sent an email to my general medical provider, asking about getting an EKG as another rule out for heart issues. My bloodwork came back good- just a little high cholesterol. IF the second Ortho Doc refuses to do the knee replacement I am left with going to a Doc in the city half an hour down the freeway or the UW hospital folks in Seattle. Anybody who knows me even a teeny bit would know right away that I am not at all open to going to the experts in Seattle. So I may be living with this interesting knee issue forever.

As long as you can use your knee and walk on it that is one thing, Hopefully you will be able to find out more at some future date,

@sallypup I have a bum knee that goes out at times but I don't check on it and to be sure I have a four-pronged cane

@RasmaSandra I have a cane. PT is trying to help me strengthen the leg.

As long as you can use it. And, if you don't have to go under the knife, that's even better. Safer, too.

@AmbiePam And that doesn't mean the new Doc will have any answers.

Medicare or some other medical transport service could probably get you to Seattle if need be. I guess you really need to get to the root of that swelling though. What was going on in your life when you first started noticing it?

@snowy22315 You ask the bestest questions. Wish I was joking. You sure you aren't a doctor? Here goes: about 25 years ago I thought I could still ride a horse. The horse won. My knee lost. So did my lower back.

@sallypup So it stems from an injury...hmm interesting I guess you will know more after the second doc takes a look. Maybe the one down the highway will be a better bet

@snowy22315 I'm guessing about the injury. I would need more resources than what I have to get me to go out of town for a medical need.

Don't think about that, I hope you will find a doctor who will operate on your knees soon.

I'm so sorry, Lenore. Can you get someone to take you to the UW hospital for the appointment? It's important to pursue everything you can..I know it's hard to travel for medical care...I have done more than my share of it, for my son and for myself. Not fun.

@MarieCoyle I don't know is my answer. Thanks for your kindness. You are really swamped in your mire. I will wait to talk to the next Ortho Doc next month and go from there. I will be curious to see what my physical therapist says when I see her next week.

@sallypup I would think that somehow, possibly medicare, social services, etc. could arrange for a ride if you have to go long distances to a doctor. They do that here quite often, when people do not drive.

That swelling is more than a bummer and I hope someone can give you some answers. Has it always swollen? Did you injure it somehow?

I hope it is not a heart disease. The recovery will take time if undergone a total knee replacement.

@LindaOhio Thanks. I'm feeling medically lonesome cause I haven't a clue on what to do and nobody in the medical field is going to talk about it for about a month.

@sallypup We have dozens of options close by; but it's difficult when doctors are scarce.

knee replacement involves surgery or? two times the same opinion, hm, like the second one is confirming what the first one said. i am sorry.

@grenery8 Yes knee replacement is surgery. Something is not right with the leg muscles. The surgeon must attach the fake knee to muscle and if the muscles are damaged somehow the new knee will not be able to work correctly. Hopefully the Doctor that I talk with next has more experience than the one I just talked to.
