Owning a Parker Fountain Pen in the good old days was considered a rare possession And if a student owned it the whole school would talk about it. I had settled only for a nib pen as we were not that well off A Parker Fountain pen required ink to be filled in but today they are available as ball point pens. I own one which was gifted to me. Ink pens are not much in demand for obvious reasons as carrying an ink bottle is not quite convenient. Image credit:

I stopped using fountain pens, but my husband still like his MontBlanc, and this one still needs ink.

It is amazing how some still prefer the old method despite being a bit cumbersome.

@allknowing - He always wants his fountain pen if he has to sign documents. Until a few years ago that was the only pen accepted for official documents in Italy.

Throughout my studies, I was an ink pen person. Till my tenth grade, I was using Pelican ink pens . Their ink pens made use of catridges They were simple to use but the material was not very long lassting. When I was in India, I got attracted to Parker and for almost 4 years , I was using Parker pens. I loved the ease of writing and holding. There are costlier brands than Parker but I was content with Parker. I used to buy a big ink bottle and refill the catridges. The ink bottles used to last for me atleast 3-6 months based on assignments , exams and any other writing assignements. It was more economical than buying catridges each time. That was sometime ago. Now , it is ballpoint pens and less writing. Have a nice day!

Both in school and college I used ink pens but not Parker. Yours is an interesting story. You must have been well off as we could not afford Parker pens. (lol)

True. I was amazed with your discussion, its like bringing back good old memories. Fountain pen are still expensive and it has the same value when it was gifted to someone... It has a separate rack in the book store and it was lock.

Owning a Parker Fount Pen is more a prestige issue than making use of it

Oh my God!!! What an amazing thing your post reminded me off. This was such a fancy thing to have while I was in my school. I remember, I got into food strike just to convince my Dad to buy one for me, because back then it was costlier than other fountain pens.

Happy I took you back to your school days. I now have a Parker ball point pen which is expensive around Rs. 1000 gifted to me.

I used a Parker fountain for some years until I misplaced it. I've since switched to Lamy and Platinum fountain pens. They are lighter in weight and easier to refill. I use a converter most of the time, although I find cartridges more convenient and less messy.

I get the feeling there may not be much of a demand when it comes to ink refill
