I am boiling some eggs this morning. I am going to try the trick I always forget about which is lying a wooden spoon over the top of the pot to prevent boil overs. I think this really works. However, I rarely have anything that boils over including eggs..when the boiling gets going I always turn it down..however, I have had an egg boil over a time or two, plus maybe some potatoes..so I brought out the spoon just in case. Do you use the wooden spoon to prevent boil overs?

I've heard of that trick but have never tried it. Did it work?

I guess so, but when they started boiling I turned them down. a bit.so wasn't really needed. I wasn't going to encourage a boil over, just to see if it would work..

I have tried it as I didn't know I was supposed to turn it down! For me at least, the wooden spoon across the top of the top of the pan worked!

I used to do this. Then one day the handle of my wooden spoon scorched. I didn’t have the burner turned up or anything, but after that, I gave it up.

I am not sure I have done it before, no more than once or twice, but I remember my mother used to do it.

@snowy22315 I can't remember anyone in my family doing that, but I do remember cooking at a very young age, so if they did that, I think I would have remembered.

I’ve never needed to try it, but I’ve always wondered how it would do if I did.

I wasn't aware of that trick, but I will have to give it a try. I am always boiling things over, I did it with my chicken soup at lunch today.

By all means try it, but use a real wooden spoon, not just any large spoon.

I'm not saying it might not work for someone, but I tried it once and it didn't work.

My mother used to do it with pudding, but there is a scientific explanation behind it.

I'd completely forgotten about this trick. Mostly I'm there to turn stuff down.

I usually do too, but I have had a boil over or two...It is generally eggs or potatoes that are the culprits.
