What was your worst cooking flop ever?

Those of us who are into cooking and baking are familiar with flops. I am sure I have had more flops than things I was happy with, but the worst one was probably a chiffon cake. I thought I was following the directions but it turned into a soupy mess. I mean the batter totally looked like liquid. I guess I could have tried adding flour or something..but it just wasn't redeemable really. The whole thing went down the drain. What is your most memorable cooking flop? Did you eat it anyway, or throw it out?

I remember very well, cream puffs, I followed the directions, but I surely made a mistake opening the oven too early. They became as flat as pancakes. I had to throw.

@snowy22315 Yes, the pâte à choux is temperamental, a little mistake and you fail.

@rakski Hmm, I usually use a mix but they aren't hard to bake from scratch either.

I am not too good at making pancakes which are simple as well. I think patience is the key though.

@snowy22315 For pancakes I think it is the batter consistency

I remember as a child I made brownies. I measured and added the ingredients, and without any supervision, I added 1/2 cup of salt instead of 1/2 teaspoon of it. My parents and brothers all cringed when they tried them and they all had to be thrown out. I haven't successfully made brownies.

@snowy22315 Easy, but not to an 8 year old who wasn't supervised.

The only one I can think of was when I was living in an apartment before we were married. I found a French recipe with a whole lot of spices and thought I'd try it. It required filet or some kind of steak. The spices were so inedible that we stood by the sink, rinsed off the meat and then ate it. I never tried anything like that again. Have a good day.

My brother-in-law was proud of his cooking skill. One day he came to see us.He proposed to prepare a sweet dish.We were eager to taste it.He prepared it;but when we tasted it;it was awful.Even he could not eat it himself.

Ugh, a lady that belongs to a group I am in once brought some kind kind of cake or pie she had prepared. It had all natural ingredients, tahini paste, dates and various things. First of all you could barely cut it because the knife kept getting stuck.Second of all, the taste was not very good. It is hard to ruin something like pie or cake but she managed.

Turkey meatloaf. They were little loaves supposed to be cooked in soup cans. It was a disaster. They didn’t set, but it also tasted badly. I ate it anyway because I couldn’t fathom wasting that much money.

Iactually have a few cooking flops. I had several like ones mentioned. I tried to make a vanilla cake i was going to poke holes in it with a wooden spoon handle and put Jello in it. I put the cake in the oven for over 4 hours at 375 degrees and it never became like a cake. I had batter so i put it in several grocery bags and threw it out There were several pans of brownies that my sister spent time trying to get them out of the pan. There was cranberry oat bars that i was making myself as a treat for Christmas and my sister spent a long time on Christmas eve trying to get them out of them pan Then there was the one that didn't turn out even though mommy, who was a phenomenal cook/baker and i wanted to make a paska bread (egg bread) and she helped me and we could not eat it as it was so rubbery I bake something GOOD last week when i made a Jiffy Mix blueberry muffin all by myself! they were delicious and tasty! have a good rest of the weekend!

4 hours for a cake?. Where did you find your recipe? I made some Dutch apple pancake once in a cast iron pan that was such a mess..I ended up throwing that and the pan out! It was impossible to clean.
