Do you have a gender preference for a boss?

I got into a discussion with someone Friday about whether I had a preference of a male or female boss. I have primarily had female bosses, so if I had to choose, I would choose a woman. That’s all things being equal. Obviously, a male boss can be just as great or terrible as any female boss. I was told it was rare for a woman to want a female boss over a man, and that surprised me. The person cited a survey they read (although we know surveys can be tweaked any which way).
Did you guys ever have a preference of gender when it comes to bosses? I know all we want is a good one, forget the gender, but of course, our life experiences can color our preferences.

I generally don't get along with other women.
So male I guess, but then there's some men that are creepy.

@AmbiePam I had a male boss when I was training to manage at Burger King who....was all fine and dandy he was a nerd all that good stuff then one night he was like yeah I cant do this anymore. And left mid shift. I had no keys, no finger print to get into the safe. NOTHING.
And then he got arrested like last year for defrauding a bunch of people while working at a bank

I have always prefered male bosses.. They are generally easier to get along with. Female bosses expect too much as a general rule in my opinion.

During the era I was working I do not think there were many females who held top posts. But yes, I would prefer a man to be my boss

Since I’m retired, NO. In the Navy, I really preferred female supervisors. The male supervisors had way too much of that sexist “you blinkity-blink women are taking up MY overseas shore billets” garbage.

At my workplace, women supervisors or coordinators do very well. Lately, 1 lady Coordinator resigned (she's very good), and a young male got her position. He is very good, too. So, I'm okay with these 2 genders.

Well, when I worked, I didn't care. And, given the choice, I probably still wouldn't. As long as I'm treated like a person.

I've worked for both; and I've seen good and bad in both genders. It depends on the individual. Have a good day.

I do not have any preference on the gender when it comes to bosses. A male boss can be just as terrible or great as female boss. There would not be any special preferences there. I had male and female bosses . I had bad ones and good ones as well. I have good memories as well as bad ones as well. Over time I have realized that a boss can be good or bad and gender has no influence on that one. I believe the survey should have included lot more participants and then the results would have been different. However it is an interesting survey but the insight currently shared does not seem right. You have a great weekend!

I have no preferences, I can say that one time there were two supervisors, women who were partners, They were the oddest couple I ever saw, Glad I can just work from home now and I am retired,

I worked with many women boss in my career. I feel beyond the gender if the person is a good human being the standard of work will be better. Rude and unkind bosses always keep the subordinate staff unhappy

you are right, the good one is what i want, if that person exists. preference? that's a tough one. i had both female and male bosses and they were the same. men were looking down to you and thinking a female boss could understand me, that never happened and they were more harsh.
