Do magicians appeal to you?

I’m trying to think if I have ever seen a magician perform in person, or maybe even an illusionist. I don’t think I have. Nowadays, people seem to have given away all the secrets to these acts, which is a bit of a shame. I love seeing the child like wonder on the face of little children when someone performs the most simple “trick”. Did any of you guys see a magician or illusionist (ex. David Copperfield, Criss Angel) in person? Would you want to?

I've seen a lot of magicians/shows - none exactly famous though I guess. We've been to the Magic Castle in Hollywood too. When waiting for Santa at the mall, we were entertained by a magician . . .my then 4ish year old son was fascinated. We got to talking to him and I was fascinated that he was Asian with a Scottish accent . Anyway, we got to hang out with him and his crew afterwards. I found him on FB years later and he remembered us! He got on AGT, Penn and Teller - Fool Us, and Master of Illusions . . . I guess he ended up doing well for himself. Sorry for the long story .

@much2say I once had a class with a Chinese woman with an Australian accent. I thought that was pretty interesting as well. Then of course on the weather channel in years gone by I have seen those of Japanese descent with Southern accents.

I have only seen a magician on television but never in person. Yes I would like to see a female magician who dresses like the fictional character Zatanna in a leotard and top hat.

I saw Criss Angel when I was young. He was always really odd to me. I mean he was a good illusionist, but I don't know if I ever bought into any of his stuff. Neil Patrick Harris is a surprisingly good illusionist. But I haven't seen anything that that man isn't good at. So there is that. Criss Angel was SO popular. Do you remember all that crazy with him.

We used to have a magician perform at the children's Christmas party for my hubby's social club's workplace. That was usually right before Santa arrived with gifts and treats, and the kids had a hard time concentrating on the performance. After a few years they cut that out and would do another activity. I have never seen a magician or illusionist that I recall.

He really seemed to be the first famous illusionist. Up until then, everyone was just generically called a magician.

Never seen any of the big names. When I was growing up we used to love watching Paul Daniels on TV. He did what you might call old-fashioned magic, but it was still mesmerising

We went to a celebration and a guy was walking around doing card tricks and sleight-of-hand at the various tables. He had us all very intrigued. I have no idea how he did any of them. It was all beyond me. lol

Nice post, at first I thought it'd be just a question. Didn't think the care for childlike wonder would be the appeal to this question. For me, seen magic stage performance (small one) when internet didn't show tricks yet, as for wonders go. I feel wonders about most things. Happy with a lot of things, how child grow up, how someone narrates story, how an actor plays the part, and of course i did get a pleasant element of surprise with your post too(as I said). So, yes, guess I felt wonder with the magic trick i saw. Shock, wonder, shock, surprise & happy.

In my country we have so many of them participating on the magically activities. Most non believers go to find solutions for their problems to the magicians.

That isn’t common here. Our culture looks at them purely in amusement.

I have seen magicians in stage show and in tv shows as a child. It was fun back then. Used to enjoy the different acts. With secret out on most of the acts , for we adults it may not be entertaining as we definitely know there is no magic as it is just tricking us for a few minutes. And once in tv , well either they are edited or camera trick. I however has not seen great magicians like David Copperfield or Criss Angel in person. I am these days more interested in mentalism , which is very interesting . Mentalist webseries is one of my recent favourites. You have a great day ahead!

There is a mentalist, I believe he goes by OZ, that goes around to different (American) football teams during training camp and engages with the players. A national sports channel has aired these encounters, and it is astonishing. The minds of the players are absolutely blown.
