Kitty Politics

My friends who have known me for a long time know that I have cats. Not as may as I had back in 2007 when I joined here. In fact, I have 6 cats now. However, I have honestly never had as much trouble as I'm having now. It was bad when Flower bullied Blossom, her sister, but really the rest didn't do it. So, let me introduce the cats I have now. Heidi is my eldest, she is 12, and starting to look her age. She's a bit thinner but still has lots of energy. She is a grey tabby, a color, if it were solid, might be called blue. She was dumped out in the country and a friend of my wife knew we rescued cats called us and brought her to us. Next in age is Onyx. She turned 7 around June 23rd. Obviously she's black. She is also fat. We got her from a PetSmart who hosted a Leander shelter cats. She bullies Teeny to the point that Teeny freezes when she sees her. She also spends a lot of time where Onyx can't reach her. Next in age is Boris. He is 6 and born toward the end of May. He was from the Austin Animal Shelter. The Shelter has a policy about the amount of time an animal is in their system then they are free. Because he'll eat just about anything, he ate a rubber band and he wasn't put up for adoption with the rest of his litter. So, he was free. He's a big orange tabby and a bit of a PITA. The roommate says he's a 'goat.' I saw him eat a spider web, with a dead fly in it. An abandoned web and long dead fly. Frank is next oldest, he's 4. He's the stray I took in, met his original owners who are homeless. They said they'd find him a good home, I said he had a good home. He is a very pale flame-point, he has beautiful blue eyes which was how he got his name. And he bullies Onyx. Justine, or Teeny is next, she is 3. When I got her she was obviously not feral, but had been out long enough to get fearful. When Onyx noticed that, she started attacking her. Teeny is a pretty short-haired calico. And, she was the last cat my wife arranged the rescue. I named her after the fellow who's shop she was around since I couldn't think of a good name from either Marble or Falls. I drove an hour to get her and an hour back. Finally, there is Braveheart. He is a brown or grey long-haired tabby with white. He's about a year and a half. He was one of the kittens of the feral mother in the colony I started feeding. First he started letting me pet him while he ate. Then he started looking in the front door. And then he walked inside. Now, I shut the door and said: "You're a inside cat now." He is still pretty feral, but he lets me, and sometimes the roommate, pet him. He prefers us to be sitting down. I also still have a dog, he's 15 and a Feist, which is a small animal hunter. A squirrel hunting dog and while I think most people would think he's a terrier of some time, and maybe they bred them from terriers. He was at the Austin Animal Shelter, surrendered because he had a broken leg. The guy said he stepped on him. There is NO way anyone stepped on that dog. He is afraid of any kind of stick, we believe the guy got him then didn't want to walk him. He also hit him, sometimes with some kind of stick or his hands. It took over 2 years to get him comfortable having his head pet. Before you could work your way up from his back to about his ears. He still doesn't want any one to come at him from the front. He was also free. He was surrendered around Christmas and we got him on his first day, in like April! So, do you have pets with interesting back stories?

Pretty cat is the only true story. She was a wild kitten born at my mom and dads. My mom loved how pretty she is. When my mom passed I set a live trap to catch her.

Last fall I trapped Mama, Scardy and Braveheart to get them fixed. Mama and Scardy first, then Braveheart. I used live traps to do it.

@wolfgirl569 Braveheart is a house cat, but he isn't like a lap cat. He will let me pet him and scratch him up behind his head on the neck. However, Fluffy, his 'aunt' has been letting me pet her... I got a touch in on Ging, but he was not a fan. The other day I had Fluffy between me and Scardy and I got some pets in on her.

I am sure that you are enjoying being with them. I only have two chihuahuas. The apple head one is quite a bully to the deer head one.

I do enjoy my critters. The dog likes other dogs, but I'm kind of waiting for him to go since I never really wanted a dog. Even the dog I did own, it was because I knew he was going to be hard to place at the shelter.

@Shavkat I'm sure they were a lot of help during your grieving. Pets in any form can be good company.

@ElicBxn Yes, they do. They are my sons for being an unmarried guy.

No pets currently. Don't know if I'll get another one. Right now, I make do with my visits to Juanita's and her two (Queenie and Pretty Girl). I do help with their vet bills.

Yeah, I didn't exactly want to bring too many more critters into my house because of my age. I don't think I'm going to die real soon, but I also don't want to leave them behind when I do die.
