A finger, hand and a bunch or stalk is how bananas are known as. A single banana is known has a finger, a group of fingers attached fingers attached is obviously known as a hand and all hands put together they are known as a bunch or stalk. What you see in the image is a bunch. That bunch grew in our garden. From the time of planting until the time the bananas are ready for harvesting it takes more than a year. When one sees a single ripe banana that is the time to harvest it. The plant then becomes redunandant and is uprooted. Some prepare dishes from the stem. I have prepared it and it tastes nice. There are many types of bananas and this link will tell you more We had 8 types and now we are struggling to get even a single variety all because of wild trees that have taken over. No regrets.

Good to hear that. I am sure your father shares his produce with your mother.

Here in Europe it's almost only the Cavendish that you find in the stores. In some specialty store we can find (not often) the pink bananas and the small and the lady fingers.

Looks like India is a place for bananas. I had 8 types when we just shifted here including cavendish. The plants are not tall and the bunches go below the ground level in that one has to dig a pit for them. They do not change colour here.

@allknowing Bananas do not grow in Europe, we import all bananas from South America, mainly from Peru and Ecuador.

To get us to eat bananas as children, my mom would roll one in jello powder, and then cut it in pieces. We thought it was so good.
