Not a pigeon in sight

Everything seems to change in our garden. In the photo you can see pigeons enjoying their time on our roof but now we do not see any. They used to frolic in the bird bath and exchange sweet nothings among them not to speak of messing the angel statue that is installed in the bird bath. All what I want to say to the pigeons is do come and we certainly do not mind your messing the statue I had a great experienc when we visited Italy - St. Mark's Square. There they have banned their entry now. Sad story

Why is that? Is it because of weather or folks hunting them? Here we have many and people complain about the mess they leave behind, they talk about shooting at them but luckily no one ever did. They're very cute and I kinda believe they can teach us a lot about love. I saw a couple of white ones the other day. I know the male is the one at the right, he showed me later.

@somewitch Pigeons are the source of plenty of diseases. Research suggests that from their droppings alone, pigeons can carry over 60 diseases, as well as 50 species of ectoparasites. I think it was an important enough reasons to reduce their population. They have not been killed, but birds that eat their eggs have been introduced.

@LadyDuck I didn't know that, I'm sure glad we don't have any around cause they can make 1 heck of a mess, but I guess any bird will when there's a lot of them in 1 place.

In my childhood's neighborhood, we used to see pigeons flying and making sound around. It is because one of childhood friends raised them.

Pigeons bring many diseases, I am glad that Italy is trying to reduce their number.

@LadyDuck Poor pigeons. I wonder where they get their feed. Not fair.

@allknowing Well, tourists are banned from feeding them, of course no one can ban pigeons from flying where they care to go. As they do not get food anymore, they go in other areas.

As long as the mess is not in the house I would not mind having them around
