Did Dawn Change its Formula?

My wife and I are not brand loyal people, but over the years we do have a few brands we tend to stick with. Rain-X windshield washer fluid, for example, as it works well and I like the way it beads rain on the windshield so I can use my wipers less and make them last longer from less wear and tear. We also prefer Cottonelle toilet paper since it is durable, and nothing is worse than paper getting stuck in bad places or breaking apart when you are using it. Years ago, we also stuck with Dawn dish soap because it simply worked better than other "value" brands, lasted longer in the sink through a round of dishes, and cut grease like nobody's business. But recently I have noticed it does not work as well, breaks down faster in a round of dishes, and hardly cuts grease like it used to, and I am certain that somewhere along the line they changed the formula. It seems to me they watered it down somehow, although I have no verifiable proof to back that claim up other than my own personal experience that something is not the same about the Dawn we use today and the Dawn we were using before. As a result, I see no reason to continue with the brand and pay the premium price for it, and our next batch of dish soap will be a value brand like Ajax or something. The thing is that sometimes these companies change their products but don't think customers will notice. But we do. All the time. And it never leaves a customer happy when something is changed, especially if it is done sort of behind their back to undercut the customer and dupe them. It takes years to build a loyal customer but only seconds to lose one. And sorry Dawn, but you've lost us. We will be moving on from here on out.

Dawn regular should work no different than it used to. The point is that something has changed.

I never used to use the Platinum blend but I have for a long time now. I think it’s tons better than the original formula. If I find it on sale, I get a spare one. It only takes a few drops and the big one lasts for a very long time. I can’t use some brands of dish soap as a few basically try to eat the skin off my hands. I am not a brand snob by any means, but the Dawn Platinum works well and lasts me longer than any other brand I have tried. And it works the best of any.

@lovebuglena I will keep it on my radar and probably give it a go. Not really anything to lose by doing so.

Maybe I will have to give that a go the next round when the current bottle of Dawn is gone.

Try leaving the cap open so it can evaporate a bit... No?

I agree. And I feel that they have added water to it.

@porwest Exactly. I am thinking about checking other products. If they are not better, at least they might be less expensive.

@marguicha Someone here suggested Palmolive OXY. I might try that one.

Glad to know I am not the only one who notices it's not the same. Really irritating, because it used to be the best thing on the market.

I think it is best to find a new brand if that is the case.

I mean, if Dawn is now no better, what would be the point of paying the higher cost of Dawn, right?

I switched to Dawn Platinum and it works way better than original Dawn. Maybe they changed the formula so everyone would switch? I wouldn't use Dawn original anymore and would probably buy a different brand if the Platinum wasn't available

Dawn Platinum is also great for laundry stains, especially grease spots. About two little drops on the spot, I rub it in a tiny bit and it goes in the washing machine. I have washed many pots and pans and dishes in my lifetime, and it’s the best I’ve ever used.

I do not know about Dawn, but several products recently changed. I am not paying good money for products that are no more good.

Oh yes, I changed some regular items that I normally buy for the same reason as yours.

I've had this happen too. If a product is no longer doing the job you expect then you can't be expected to be a loyal customer.

That's it exactly. I still have to have a reason to stick with something. If it no longer works the way it used to, it's no longer worth the premium.

Yup. Just like when all those companies changed the number of ounces in a product but charged the same amount. We always use Ajax. Have a good day.

Maybe I will have to give Ajax a try. The sad part is that these companies, when they change things, think we won't notice. Some of us don't, but many of us do.
