Did you like clowns when you were growing up?

I have never understood the prevalence of clowns at circuses and children's parties. As a child, I liked cartoon characters like Yogi Bear and Bugs Bunny. I resonated with the Tasmanian Devil (Taz), because he rough and tough, but got all whimpery when Bugs played music for him. But clowns? They always scared the cr*p out of me. I think I went to a couple of circuses as a kid. I focused on the animals. And I went to a couple of birthday parties where a clown was giving out balloons shaped like animals. I can't remember if I ever brought home a balloon poodle. Even as an adult, I just look away when a clown appears. Did you ever like clowns? Did they ever scare you? I'll take Pikachu over a clown every day.

I never really liked clowns. I didn't find them funny, I just felt sorry for them. As for other 'children's' characters; I can't stand Mickey Mouse.

I don’t care for Mickey, either. Really, none of the Disney cartoons impressed me. I’m more of a Bugs Bunny person.

I was never inot Mickey Mouse. But Minnie is very "in" with 2-year-old girls these days.

I never liked clowns, never when I was a kid and even less growing up. I loved Donald Duck.

@TheHorse I have no idea who Rocky and Bullwinkle are. I liked some Warner Bros characters, but not all. Their movie What's Opera, Doc? The story parody of 19th-century classical composer Richard Wagner's operas, was the most boring cartoon I ever watched.

Did you grow up with Rocky and Bullwinkle? I liked them, along with several Warner Bros. cartoon characters.

Clowns never bothered me at all, but my best friend is freaked out by them. They literally make her cry.

No, I didn´t. And I still don´t. I liked people in trapezes and well trained animals. I was happies than happy when my brother invited me years ago to the Cirque du soleil. It was art.

Have you seen the (I think it is) "Cirque du soleil while on mushrooms" scene from the movie, "Knocked Up?" It's pretty funny.

I guess clowns never really bothered me - not a like or hate thing - they were just "clowns". Remember Bozo the Clown on TV? Just part of my childhood. I think I had a Halloween clown mask and costume when I was little. Well Pikachu is pika pika cute.

@TheHorse Did he creep you out? I didn't get the notion of clowns being creepy until someone mentioned it later on in life.

They weren’t horror movie characters back then (we had birds and motel proprietors to worry about). And my uncle is a professional clown..

Honestly, not a big fan of a clown either. I just never got the appeal.

I don't think clowns bothered me too much when I was a child. It wasn't until "It" and John Wayne Gacy that I really began to dislike them. Now they creep me out. Clowns at the circus were to come between the shows and be silly to hold the kid's attention.

Heh. They didn't care me as much as I pretend (though some clown shows kind of scare me ). But they never intrigued me.

@TheHorse Me, too. And most of them don't talk, so it's like watching a mime.

Clowns don't bother me but they certainly lost favour with a lot of people after that film-whose-name-I-can't remember.

Me neither. I think I asked my dad, when I was about six, "Why do some people think clowns are funny?"

I have always looked at clowns as if they are insane people and after Stephen King and his novel IT I am terrified of clowns.

Never paid attention to circus clowns with painted faces. Those l found funny were the natural ones l met during my high school days ...
