Gift tags coming out my ears

The photo has nothing to do with the post. It’s our national floral emblem – the wattle.
I wrote in a response earlier today that I had gift tags ‘coming out my ears’. What a strange idiom this is. In case English isn’t your first language, it means that you have an over-abundance of something. In my case, I have enough gift tags for many, many Christmas’s.
I tried to research the phrase but couldn’t find out how it might have originated. Perhaps someone else will have better luck.

@JudyEv I ordered pretty gold labels when we moved into our home in the country.
Even after over 20 years of living there and actually sending a decent amount of mail, which we no longer do, I had sheets and sheets of labels when we moved.
I'll never order them again for the amount of mail that I send out it is wasteful.

@Juliaacv We now have a surplus of business cards too. They are cheaper to buy if you order a certain number but now they have the wrong address on them and our Website cards about the photography will no longer be useful as we will be closing the site. However, I'm using business cards to write my grocery orders. They will still last a very long time.

@JudyEv - It is very possible. There is a place in the South of France called "Bormes les Mimosas" where the golden wattle trees are so many that you can feel the smell in the air even driving on the close highway. It's a very pretty small town.

I have enough gift bags and wrapping paper to last another 20 years or more. I won't live that long! Have a good weekend.

Me, too! It's one of those things that charities like to send, unasked for, to try to get me to donate. I donate the gift tags, lol

Yes, that's how I got a lot of mine. Address labels were also sent out in this way.
