Continuing on with the two-fer lists, we’re at the 2/3 mark today. Just 33 songs on each list to go. Darn, that means I have to start coming up with ideas again. Here’s today’s song from the Hot 100 favorites list.
Silver Bird - Mark Lindsay
Fun fact time: “Cherokee Nation” was meant to be Mark Lindsay’s first post-Paul Revere & the Raiders solo song. Columbia Records relented and made it a “band” song, and it became the band’s only #1 hit.
For the solo side, Lindsay had little success. He had a total of TWO songs to make the top 40: “Arizona” and this one, with “Arizona” being the bigger hit of the two. No, this is the one I go for. I absolutely love this song, and I have since I heard my brother playing the 45 in his room when I was a kid.
We need more songs to reference Walter Mitty (“satisfy your Walter Mitty mind, trying out a dream”), too!
One more fun fact: co-writer Kenny Young also co-wrote the classic Drifters song “Under the Boardwalk.”
Silver Bird
Written by Kenny Young and Artie Butler
Recorded by Mark Lindsay
From Silver Bird, 1970
Peak chart position: #25
Today’s country song: “Singing My Song”

Absolutely one of my favorite songs, If I remember correctly I think Englebert Humperdink sang a version but this is my favorite,

He did not. Englebert’s song was “On the Wings of a Silver Bird,” which was written by “There’s a Kind of Hush” songwriters Les Reed and Geoff Stephens. This is a completely different song.
