A Clean Slate

Today, the day before Remembrance Day, I always strive to have the pretty autumn decorations down and packed away. I do not take out any decorations until after we recognize the importance of this day. My very last autumn decoration is now packed away until next Labour Day weekend. It was the wreath on the door. It now hangs on the inside of my office door to keep it in good shape, I put a garbage bag over it to keep the dust and light off of it. Tomorrow we will remember those brave souls who fought during the world wars to give our country the peace that we enjoy today, and hopefully will for generations to come. A clean slate here to remember the sacrifices that those brave soldiers made all of those years ago. ~Photo is mine

I believe that Remembrance Day here in Canada is more comparable to your Memorial Day there.

@LindaOHio I always feel sad after I take down the lovely autumn decorations and do not have the Christmas ones up yet. Everything seems so bare. But I did some good cleaning and rearranging over the course of the past couple of days.

@kaylachan It is good to get a little ahead, by earning time and a half, before I really get going into my Christmas shopping.

Thanks, I volunteered to work, but will still take a minute of silence during the course of my day.

We also call this day Remembrance Day, we observe two minutes of silence at 11:00 am, that is the time of the World War I armistice in 1918.

Our day tomorrow is in the same vein, but it is Veterans Day where we honor the living vets and current servicemen. It’s been a wonderful weekend of tributes.

I resized this picture and did a really terrible job of it. I will have to try again. We recognize those who served in the RCAF-Royal Canadian Armed Forces, some of whom are still alive. No soldier has done for me, and my generation, what those who fought in the first 2 world wars have.

I am with you. My grandfather had shared his courage during World War II. The sad part is that I did not see him since birth. I only know him from my mom's great stories about him.

pretty wreath. I don't take down my autumn decorations until after Thanksgiving (Nov. 28th).

I understand waiting as your Thanksgiving is much later than ours is and you want to enjoy those decorations for the holiday.

That's a very considerate action. We attended a commemoration serrvice at a small country town where they especially remembered young men from the town who enlisted and lost their lives. One of them was Vince's great uncle.

Thank you, it is hanging on the inside of my office door now under a garbage bag to keep it dust-free. It is important that at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month we take a moment of silence and give thanks for those who fought for our freedom.

I can understand keeping your decorations up until after Thanksgiving. Plus you have Memorial Day to recognize those who fought and lost their lives, which isn't tomorrow from my understanding.
