Expensive food does not necessarily mean good food.

A neighbor close by decided she would get big time into a strict Keto diet. She asked me about it, but I told her it didn't interest me as it was just too much meat, etc. She jumped in, went out and bought a ton of stuff, and decided this was what she wanted to do.
She bought several types of Keto bread. I have seen it in stores and was shocked at the price of it, but she said she wanted to just eat that for her bread. She came over the other day and had a frozen loaf of Keto bread, to give to me as she had purchased 3 loaves of it--and she hated it. I thanked her and tossed it in MY freezer, thinking I would try it sometimes. Today, I decided it was taking up space in the freezer so I got it out to try it, and make some toast.
This stuff tastes just like...nothing. It's completely tasteless. I don't even think a person can call it bread, but I guess it is. I would rather have a piece or two of regular bread I make myself, or even my choice of it at the store, than a loaf of this Keto stuff.
And the price on the bag that she paid? $7.49 for one small loaf of tasteless bread. I was just astounded that anyone would pay that much for it! I couldn't eat it and son didn't like it at all...the squirrels got some and went after it, I will put the rest of it out for them tomorrow.
Have you tried Keto bread? Do you like the taste, is it just us or is it as bad tasting to you as it is to us?

I have never tasted nor would i buy it. It costs too much. I have heard that it is not good at all. Glad you gave it to the squirrels instead of throwing it away. I watch a squirrel outside the kitchen window every time I eat!
I would NEVER pay $7.49 for a loaf of bread! I pay about $1.49 reluctantly at Walmart I say reluctantly as I used to pay about $1 and it has steadily increased in price.
By the way, I am starting to eat as I brought half of a meatloaf out of the freezer Sunday night. I found two things that are in the same freezer bag that look good but i have no idea what they are! I texted my sister about it and she immediately texted back to defrost it and see what it is!

@MarieCoyle I am now paying as much as 5 dollars a loaf for good, fiber filled wheat bread. I won't touch the caramel colored bread though its cheaper.

Oh, there are cheap breads out there, at least cheap by today's standards. And I don't want to pay for them, which is why I mostly just make my own and I know what's in it, and the ingredients are right here.

I wouldn't pay that, either. I do bake a lot of our breads here at home. Sometimes time restraints have me buying a loaf at the store, but I am kind of picky about bread, anyway. I absolutely hate plain old white, soft, bread from the store. To me, it's tasteless like the Keto bread. I make rye bread, and wheat bread. From time to time I have been known to start a sourdough starter and make that as well. Oh, we do like what is called Hawaiian bread/rolls and that is white bread, but I make that for the kids sometimes as a treat.
I am glad you are hungry, and eating. Make a meatloaf sandwich, those are good! Do you like baked potatoes? You could buy a few potatoes at a time, and bake one in your microwave. So easy and good.

I know what you mean.
When the kids were all home, I always made one extra loaf, as no matter what they would want a piece or two of warm bread to eat, and that pretty much decimated an entire loaf of bread!

Homemade is just the best, isn't it?
I have always thought the aroma in the kitchen of homemade bread baking was just wonderful.

I am very glad I never wasted any money to try Keto breads. It might be helpful to some people, but I am not buying anything that tastes like this does, and costs so much. Just silly.

I decided it was easier to look it up than to try to decipher the ingredients printed in tiny print on the bag! So via the Brownberry site, it's
WATER, MODIFIED WHEAT STARCH, WHEAT PROTEIN ISOLATE, SUNFLOWER FLOUR, VEGETABLE OIL (SOYBEAN), YEAST, INULIN (CHICORY ROOT FIBER), OAT FIBER, SEA SALT, SOLUBLE CORN FIBER, PRESERVATIVES (CALCIUM PROPIONATE, SORBIC ACID), MONOGLYCERIDES, SOY LECITHIN, GUAR GUM, XANTHAN GUM, MALTODEXTRIN CITRIC ACID.
All I can say is it has no taste and a very odd texture. Just...a big no from me.

@MarieCoyle That sounds like a bunch of fillers. I believe inulin can cause gut issues sometimes. I do like the addition of sunflower seed flour but otherwise what a chemical factory!

It really is sad that people do these diets. I used to have a collection of books on different diets. I really personally believe that people need to eat good food and quit worrying about diets. I am 73 years young and I won't go by any diet. I eat what I want. I am smart enough to eat some nutritious meals but I also enjoy what I like. I believe that life is too short to go by these ridiculous diets. I am a foodie. I like food and I will enjoy it. Prices are going to be going up once Trump is in office. With all of his tariffs.

Sometimes, I think the manufacturers of some of these things believe if it's really expensive, people will buy it because it's supposed to be the best. This is definitely not true, and not all of us are foolish enough to pay for $7.49 for a loaf of something that looks like bread but isn't.

When I was doing keto to lose weight I found some that was low carb but still tasted decent. It wasn't as low carb as what you are showing there. And nowhere near that cost

@MarieCoyle That's why they need to charge so much. I was buying whole grain back then only. It was close to 3 a loaf. But getting the 20 pounds off was worth that

Many breads now are just ridiculously priced. A loaf of the rye bread I really like is $5. I can make my own at home for about $1.50 or so. I realize that costs have risen, but I am not going to pay that much for bread. My own tastes better and is healthier anyway, so it's fine.

I guess the makers of the bread think the extremely low carbs will attract consumers but one taste and they won’t have buy it again.

I don’t follow the keto diet by any means, but one of my coworkers does and she often brings in keto dishes that she makes. All of them are rather tasteless. She even jokes about it, but I don’t think it’s too funny spending all that money for food that tastes bland.

That would be a great idea...maybe you should invent something, Jennifer.
I remember as a young married woman, saying to my husband that it would be so nice if someone would invent a washing machine that actually dried the clothes, too, no separate machine needed. He thought that was the dumbest idea I ever had. I now have several friends that own one, so it's definitely a real thing. I guess I should have moved on my idea, huh?

I have never tasted anything like that bread. The texture of it was a complete turn off, and add in the fact that it’s tasteless and costs $7.49 for a loaf, it’s ridiculous. Surely if you wanted Keto bread there would be a tastier way to make it.

@MarieCoyle have you ever tried to make a keto loaf of bread?
I wouldn't try it because i have no desire to eat keto, i am not into fad diets but i would be afraid to try it if it tastes so bad. if i hear something was not so great why would somebody buy it?
Maybe you could work with a recipe and make a super delicious keto bread that wasn't so expensive and make you millions upon millions of dollars.
sorry, but i have an entrepreneurial side that likes to give others ideas to make big money so this is my latest idea. it doesn't always show but it comes out. my last involved my sister and she disliked my idea.
Hope you have a super day today!

Keto bread does not tatse great. Atleast I never liked it. Keto diet is expensive , plus it has to be supervised. Our bodies are unique , our diets are tuned to the family we raised , culture etc etc. Trouble is when we change the diet , yes the body would react- but it is both positive and negative. Positive , yes it could help to bring down some pounds. Negative- in long run , it will figure a way to get the lost pounds back. The idea is to stick to what you eat and reduce only 2 % every you eat on average basis for a quarter and walk or exercise for an hour. This simple formula should help atleast take away 10 pounds by end of a quarter. Sometimes we do not like to do the simple things in life

You are correct, Keto is an expensive way to diet, I don't have any desire to try it but have known people who have. Rarely can they stay on it as a way of life. I agree, a person needs to eat less, and in many cases, make better choices. Set limits for yourself and learn to stick to it.
