Sticky mouse traps.

A post by @LindaOHio just brought this to mind. Years ago when I lived in the USA, I had an office desk next to a doctor and we were friendly, she used to tell me about the goings-on in her family life etc. Once she told me that she had a problem with mice in the house. She called in a pest controller and he put down some glue traps. A day or so later she heard squealing and, upon investigation, she found a mouse stuck to the trap. She spent a long time carefully freeing the mouse, unsticking its little paws and cutting its face free using a razor blade to carefully trim its fur where it had got stuck as it struggled. Then she took it out into the countryside to let it go. When the pest control man returned and she told him how difficult it had been to free the mouse, he just stared at her in disbelief. Apparently she was meant to just throw the trap with the mouse, still alive, in the bin. She couldn’t believe such an inhumane system was legal, and neither could I, and that was 25 years ago. @xFiacre I agree and other small animals get glued, young kittens, hedgehogs. Those are illegal here.

It's ironic when you think that medical research involving any animals has to be justified and given ethical approval, yet householders do not need to go through any such safeguards. Those sticky traps are illegal in the UK except under licence.

Because they are inhumane, they are illegal here. Poor little mice.

I bought months ago this year because I noticed there were small creatures crawling on the window grills. I did not save the mouse and threw the sticky pad.

Did you kill the mouse before throwing it away?

@Fleura I have cats that take care of the problem. But they can be very cruel too

Do you use them? Do you throw the live mouse away or do you kill it yourself first?

That is exactly what I did way back when mom and I lived in NYC. We got a little mouse in a sticky trap, I took it behind the apartment house and carefully released it in the grass and leaves out there. I even made sure it's little feet weren't too sticky. Fortunately, I was already a young adult otherwise I would probably have wanted to keep it as a pet lol Can you image my mom?

You can free a mouse from a sticky trap by using a bit of cooking oil. Then you can turn it loose if that’s what your plan is.

They are not legal here except under licence, so not something I will need to deal with.

@Fleura I don't have mice, but I do own several small ''live traps'' that you put the bait in, the mouse goes in and the little door closes. The bait most people use on these is just plain old peanut butter. Mouse goes in, you take the trap out to the release spot you pick, and turn it loose. Easy.

@Fleura They are just not nice, nor pleasant to see when the mouse is struggling so hard to be free.

Yeah, I saw someone record a video of a girl staying in a Airbnb in Europe, and she heard noises. It was a mouse stick in a glue trap. She was crying and so upset, but managed to free the little thing. I’m not sure how long ago the video was shot, but hopefully they don’t sell those anymore. I guess that lady wasn’t familiar with what a real humane trap looked like.

I often wonder why we human beings are made to kill. Throwing the live mouse in the bin is nothing but horror.

Those traps are horrible. Have you seen the videos on YouTube of young kittens rescued from those traps? Humans can be cruel and horrible.

I use them in my cabin B-4 I got deathly sick & landed in the hospital for 6 mons, & when I finally got to come home they had taken over the cabin & I bought a box of over a 100 stick pads & caught a bunch of them till I started seeing nests of them & I was TOTALLY DONE ! ! ! I went & got me a mouse sonar That makes a silent sound they hate & set that up & haven't seen a mouse since, but the sticky pads I like them but I wouldn't save the mice that got stuck on them, they were thrown into the fire pit. Now I'm mouse FREE.
