What do you know, I left my bag at home, so I have to type this by finger. Or, I can dictate it. We’ll see how that goes. Meanwhile, here’s today’s pop song, definitely a top 20 pick. Enjoy this, because you’re going to hate me for the country song! Son of a Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield Dusty!! Do I really have to say anything else? They call it “blue eyed soul“ when a white person does R&B really well. And believe me, Dusty did it exceptionally well. The song’s writers had Aretha Franklin in mind to record this, and she eventually did. Not before Dusty made it her own. This was Springfield’s last top ten hit for nearly 20 years, until she teamed up with the Pet Shop Boys in 1987. Her legacy is this song…and just about everything else she sang. Son of a Preacher Man Written by John Hurley and Ronnie Wilkins Recorded by Dusty Springfield From Dusty in Memphis, 1968 Peak chart position: #10 Today’s country song: “Sweet Dreams” Being good isn’t always easy:

I have never heard her version. I like her breathiness vs. Franklin. Nicely done, she did.

She made this quite a sensual song just by her delivery.

It was! Probably made preachers a little scared about what their sons were doing.

Dusty had a great husky voice and sung some great songs. I loved her collaboration with the Pet Shop Boys. Did they sing ‘How Much is that Doggie in the Window’? If not, they should have. I think my favourite of hers is possibly I Close My Eyes and Count to Ten, but as you say, they were all good.
