While we were in school or college, we used to read and learn poetry. It is unique way of human expression with carefully chosen words, rhythm and creativity. Poetry has the power to convey to convey emotions, thoughts or even imagination. It allowed reader to connect deeply with certain themes such as love, resilience etc.
Today I feel that the traditional poetry is almost dead. There are short verses which with help of digital media and tools are often designed for immediate impact rather than for long term study or enjoyment. The poetry’s strict form or traditional form seem irrelevant to people.
Again the themes of traditional poetry may not be relatable to people as they do not focus on the current challenges and rather restricted to classical times. Poetry is often seen as a relic , overshadowed by new techniques of human expression and which are more direct.
Poetry has become more of a historical study than an active form of human expression. What is your opinion?

@RevivedWarrior from what i've seen online and what i've read - people are writing more freely about many different topics. there's no point in being polite anymore.

You could be right. I miss those times when we would just read the lines slowly and meditate on them. Poetry makes us slow down. People are so soaked in social media and live online discussions now, that we barely notice the wisdom and beauty of poetry in our lives.
I'm not well versed but I love reading Wordsworth.

Well, guess the older generation like us love poetry and even reading now. I also noticed the attntion span is less with younger generation that prefer something less and less of analysing the thoughts . Hence I mentioned that poetry is becoming a relic.

@RevivedWarrior When you say form of expression do you mean how poems are written these days? I belong to the old school of thought - Mine are rhymes.

Being a poet is wonderful. But then the form of expression that we know of seems dying. Do you think in same lines?

Yes, I think it is still in this time, but it doesnt change the fact that writers should get their readers hook to their poetry on the first stanza, I think same with the book and dramas, if they dont get their viewers on the first episode none of it will watch or read the story up to the end.

I think the education ministry is also thinking that poetry is becoming a relic . Thanks for sharing!
