Animals Get Less Social as They Age

Research had claimed that animals tend to be like us. As the years go by, aging cannot be held back. I am not generalizing that all people will be less social as they grow older. Some prefer to spend at home, and others do not. According to researcher Josh Firth from the University of Leeds, young animals tend to be more sociable because they want to learn how to survive in the wild, while old ones know how to do it. Are you still sociable as you grow older? Are the traits that animals exhibit to us similar in any other way? Image Credit: media.istockphoto.com

I think when we are younger, we try to fit in. Now, I see more how other people fit into my world . . . I am more comfortable with myself and don't have to seek it as much as my younger days.

@Shavkat Yup. I wonder if animals try to fit in too - to be accepted?

I must admit when I was young, I tried to fit in. Eventually, I learned that it should not be through years of my existence. Unfortunately, some people tend to be like this just to be accepted.

@much2say That is a good question. In my view, I think they can try to fit in.

I think it depends on the animal and person.

I also agree that animals have their own characters like humans. But I had seen some of my pet dogs were easily agitated when they get old.

@wolfgirl569 I agree it depends on their personalities, too.

You said it right. In fact, we cannot generalize it.

I'm probably a bit less social. I don't really know about animals though.

It is also the same thing here. When I started to work from home, I do not socialize that much. I just felt more comfortable being with my immediate family, close relatives, and friends.

i'm not but that's just how i currently feel. since animals tend to copy their owners' behaviour, it also depends.

Speaking of human's behavior(s), they do immitate their masters. I noticed this with my pet dogs.

Hi! Yes, I am less sociable. This is because I do not drink as much as I used too. hahaha! I do prefer to be home alone with my cat. My cat on the other hand is alot more sociable then he was when he was young. He wants more cuddles, does not bite me or scratch me anymore. Is always with me. I beleive my cat is alot more loving then he used to be. So no, I do not believe this has anything to do with age. I also know lots of older people who are very sociable. I think it all has to do with what you have been through in life. Everyone is unike in there own way.

Honestly, I like my own company. I love music, and I pray a lot nowadays. There is a reason for it. I was always a believer but not a routine follower....so....belief is there, implanted in the brain, but the files came up rarely. The last three years have been tough on me, with Dad's stroke. Dad used to fall frequently, and that had made me very nervous. I prayed, and god listened. I prayed again for curing my stomach related issues. Again he gave it to me. Now the third prayer answered....too much to be coincidence...so yeah..I am praying again, regularly, And thinking more of god. So you could say I tend to be less social.

I also noticed that they easily get angry. I had seen this with our old dog before. She does not want to play with the young one.

I think that can be true.. and maybe because they feel their body is getting weak and they tend to sleep more to regain strength. Me? I am an introvert, I can't tell, but you I can't tolerate noise now a days... noise from the teenagers who love to shout and laugh in the street or public vehicles.

I think that is happening to me. The more I age, the more I want to stay home.

hmm not in my family my grandpa, may he rest in peace, lived a bit far from the city. and every wednesday he would go to market place and talk to people he knew and after that he'd go for a coffee in one cafe and be with his old friends. i kinda feel like it has something to do with culture - people here drink coffee quite often and you're often inviting others to come drink coffee at your place and vice versa. doesn't change with age and about animals - i'm currently living with 12 year old cat and she is the loveliest thing i've ever met. super social with people she knows

I believe we all love to be social . Trouble is in real-life , most of us are all racing against time to be financially independent. In order to get the better returns of the time , we tend to cut down things which are not fruitful. Some of us cut down our social activities totally or atleast bring it down. Will it improve in time , it is an even probability. Again, the success of social medias has been around this fact- that we are unable to spend in person and be social. Next closest way is to do virtually. For animals , they do not have a choice. They socialize based on their experiences. For me personally , I love to be social. Do I find time , none unfortunately!

You are right that the lives of humans are complicated as compared to animals. All they need to do is survive in the world.
