Thank goodness. My husband called me at 11 pm last night. He's always hard to understand these days; but he sounded very lucid. He thinks he's going to be going home soon because he's doing so well. I doubt that's the case.
He doesn't have a doctor's appointment until December 11 and will have to keep the Foley in until then. I can't imagine that's good hygiene-wise. I worry about infection.
I want to apologize for saying I was overwhelmed and depressed. So many of you have it much worse than I do. I am feeling much better and am hanging in there. I do have a lot of things going on right now.
We will be going to see him today. He doesn't think I should switch him to another facility because he thinks he's coming home soon. I wish that were true.
I'm still trying to apply for VA benefits. The problem is verifying my husband's identity. It finally accepted copies of his driver's license...now I have to wait for a code in the mail so I can continue the application online.
Thank you for your continued prayers, support and thoughts.

Linda, you don’t need to apologize at all! Anyone would feel overwhelmed and depressed, and we want you to feel like you can talk about that here on Mylot. We’re here to listen and hold you up in prayer, and we want you to feel free to express your emotions, whatever they are, to us openly, without any guilt.
You are so loved, and I can only hope that that you feel that to your bones.

You need not apologize here, you are amongst friends.
It is better that he is in an upbeat mood and thinks that he will return home again, than being miserable as he realizes that is not the case.
I hope that you both enjoy your time together when you visit today.

@BarBaraPrz To get on the Veterans Administration website, they have to make triple sure that you are who you say you are before you can apply for benefits.

It’s never easy, is it. Hope you have a good visit with him today.
And you don’t have to apologize! Yes, someone else might “have it worse,” but YOUR ENTIRE WORLD has fallen apart. That’s not something to take lightly! That’s what we’re here for. I’ve been out a few thousand dollars this month with the car and property taxes and a new fridge, but that is “nothing” compared to what you’re enduring.
Love you, dear!

It is a tough time for you. If venting here helps then keep doing it. I think that's his confusion talking when he says he is coming home soon. You may need to just start making the decisions on your own.

Does he not have a copy of his DD214? He should also be trackable by his Social Security Number. At least that is what they always want about Bob is the last four of his Social Security. The VA forms online have not seemed very user friendly to me in the past, I hope it goes well for you. When was he in the service?

Is he a vet? That's a process you should've done years ago. And the level of benifits he'd get would be based on how disabled he'd be considered and they would want to use their facilities.
And, as I've pointed out before, many times, there comes a point where facilities will say we've gone as far as we can, now its time for you to continue the work at home.
Also, "going home soon" might be his way of saying he's dying and it's only a matter of time. People typically start saying that when they are ready to give up. Given what he's been through and the problems with his heart and infected legs and so on....his age....
I don't want you to dispair or loose hope. But, that's another thing to consider.
One more thing to consider, is that by law, as long as he's lucid and capable of making a rational decision. He has the right to come home when he wants. And, even though you are his wife, you can't say 'no'.

@LindaOHio Yes, I know. It's bleak. But, you need to talk about it. As hard as it is.

Yes, he's a vet. I can't think about his dying right now. I have enough to deal with. Don't think it hasn't crossed my mind though.

Honestly I would have fallen apart a long time ago if I was dealing with all that you are. I'm glad you're feeling better but don't beat yourself up when you get overwhelmed.
Hope you have a nice visit today and that you can get the benefits from the VA.
