Stewed apples.

The atmosphere in my kitchen this morning is one of warmth, comfort and security. And nostalgia. A pot of apples is stewing away happily, cooking apples infused with cloves, cinnamon, ginger, lemon juice and a splash of brandy. I’m standing over the open pot so that the happy fumes given off will be soaked in by my sweater and so stay with me all day. Later I’ll make a crumble to go over it and we’ll feast on it for dessert tonight. If there’s any left over I’ll wash my face in it. I also has whiskey marmalade with clovers on my toast this morning. Life is just great today.

We had baked apples yesterday, stuffed with a little bit of brown sugar and a couple of teaspoons of the infused fruit left from making 'Xmas pudding vodka'. You would have liked them I think : )

Stewed apples! That brings back childhood memories. Stewed apples and custard. Ice-cream was only on Fridays as we had to rush home from town with an ice-cream 'brick' as it was called then.
