Unlike normal people, and of course my family has never rightly ever been considered "normal people," we will have our Thanksgiving gathering on the 8th of December. Hey, we're not hosting, so we didn't set the date. But it is rare that we ever actually have Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving day due to schedules and when we can get everyone together. It's usually a pretty large gathering with my wife and I, my sister and brother-in-law and their two younger kids. Then there are the two older kids with their girlfriends and boyfriends, and my niece has a kid and her boyfriend has a kid. Then there's my brother-in-law's sister and her two kids. My mom. My brother-in-law's mom comes too usually. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter so much when we celebrate it as much as we eventually celebrate it. We'll probably host Christmas in March. lol

As long as you are together, the date is not important, the people you are celebrating it with.

Yep. My sentiments exactly. Besides, when is it not a good time to get together, even if it's not a holiday or special occasion?

We try to get together as often as possible, but sometimes life has a way of getting between things, so to speak.

My family’s Thanksgiving will be December first. I don’t really mind, and I don’t think anyone else does either. I hope your official Thanksgiving is a great one.

Nah, so long as you get together, the day on the calendar isn't all that important.

The important thing is to be able to celebrate together. Who cares if you celebrate Christmas in June!

Although, if I have to look at Christmas decorations until June I might lose my mind.

@porwest I know how you feel. If I put Christmas stuff up now, I would be sick of it by Christmas. Then people leave it up for months.

The important is getting together at some point. The special days in some way are just a good excuse to bring everyone together.

Funny how we do sometimes need to have a reason to force it. But of course, life can be pretty demanding most of the time. It's hard to make time unless there's something specific.

Being together is all that matters. The date doesn't. I hope you have a wonderful time. And Dec. 8th is Mike and mines wedding anniversary, 33 years.

That's the way we look at it. The calendar is only a roundabout guide. Not a confirmed only date.

Getting all my my kids and their families together on one day is just about impossible these days. We sometimes have to split it up and have 2 events. That's okay too!

Thanksgiving was never a big deal in my family, as far as getting everyone together. We always saved that for Christmas. In fact, most of my life growing up, we always went hunting camping during the week of Thanksgiving. Can you guess where I spend most of my Thanksgiving days at now?

For Thanksgiving, a lot of the extended family get together, so we end up with quite a lot of people.

Not sure yet. Thinking I might just do a Mississippi pot roast in the crock pot. But we have nothing otherwise special planned.

@porwest my mom is going away to FL to visit my brother and the kids. My in-laws are going away to AU. So we’ll be alone for Thanksgiving. My mom got us a smoked turkey from Costco. We’ll make that. Not sure what else we’ll do.

I wound up buying a turkey just for us, a small 12 pounder. I don't really like turkey all that much, BUT at 58 cents a pound I couldn't pass up what would turn into many cheap meals. I might throw it in the smoker in June.

It's funny that you should say this. My husband's mom is showing signs of cognitive impairment and asked the other day, "When are we having Thanksgiving?" to which we all replied, "Oh gee, that's usually on THANKSGIVING!"

No reason not to celebrate Thanksgiving later than usual but it makes that celebration so much closer to Christmas,

Regardless of the actual date, sounds like a great bunch that gathers for Thanksgiving.

Over the years we have often had to change the date to make it work. It's the gathering that's important, not the date itself. That is quite a large bunch of people to feed, I can see how it would get difficult to make that work for everyone.
