More about our meal on the train

I thought I should tell you a bit more about the five-course meal that we had recently on a slow-moving train.
The train had three carriages, each with forty people. There were tables of four either side of a passageway with two people facing two others either side of a table. They told us that two volunteers hadn’t arrived so all the serving was done by three people. One lady would have been in her 70s but they all did a great job of serving so many. I learnt later that the cooking was done on a wood (fired) stove in the train. There were two chefs.
We started off with pumpkin soup, followed by an entrée of fish fillet. The main course was roast lamb served with roast potato, pumpkin, beans and gravy. Dessert was a delicious apple crumble with cream and lastly we were served a cheese-board with port. Any alcoholic drinks could be bought on the train.
The photo shows Vin and I with Vince’s younger brother standing behind.

That was a wholesome meal I see.
I have finalised my menu for the party -deep fried egg, mushroom masala, pancakes, vegetable ball curry, vegetable biryani, carrot halwa and ice cream

@allknowing I am curious. Is carrot halwa like the Greek halva that I have eaten? The one that I know about is made of very light flaky pastry with tons of honey and chopped walnuts.

the meal sounds delicious. I love all the food items. In India goat meat is served instead of lamb but they are not available in trains
