Power was out for hours.

And I hate it when that happens.
We had some wild, consistent winds, and the power blinked on and off until about 5AM....then it just went off, and didn't come back on. Supposedly, the wind did a number on something, somewhere. The electrical lines here around me are all buried lines, but many of the rural ones (Illinois has a lot of farmlands!) are not.
When it does go out, the silence is so big inside, it's eerie, whether it's day or night. I don't like it. I have to have background noise, comes from raising a pack of kids, I guess. For now, it's ON again, and I am thankful.
Another thing I am thankful for--in between the spurts of it being off and then on and off again---I MADE MY POT OF COFFEE!!!

Oh, girl...you have no idea how appreciative I was that it stayed on long enough this morning for that coffee to brew!

I do the same thing. I am addicted.
But if I have to be addicted to something, coffee is the best thing!

I lucked out, I had it all ready to brew, the power came on and it was just ending the cycle when it went back off. But hey...I got my coffee!

@MarieCoyle You are welcome since anytime the weather persons say high wind is coming, it means that a blackout could happen.

And of course, we are all so dependent on electricity. I know in some parts of the world, they still don't have the access to it that we do. Still, I hate it when it goes down at times.

Glad you have that pot of coffee just in case. Aside from not having coffee I do agree that the silence that comes with a power outage is eerie. Im also a background noise person.

we are supposed to get winds, and snow flurries today through Friday but should only stick in the higher elevations-- i do not live in those areas. I am trying to not think about the power going out. it is too scary. one of my biggest fears I don't like the dark or the silence. On one of the Amazon Prime days a few years ago, I got a great deal on a battery-operated radio
i hope both of us have electricity when the winds come. The weather person on the local news said this morning that a strong cold front is coming through my area

I believe one like I described can be fairly reasonable, unless you buy one as big as a tank...Mine was under $50 and it gets the job done. If you get one, get one with the crank, which helps recharge the battery after 3 days if you are in a long power outage. Once, we were out for a week due to some wicked tornadoes. I was so glad to have it.

Yes, the winds will be back tomorrow, and cold, and snow flurries, But, even if the temperature can support snow--low to mid 30's--the ground is still too warm and it will melt right away. We aren't supposed to get hardly any, so I am not worried.
I have an emergency weather radio, it has USB ports, batteries, extra batteries, and a hand crank to charge the battery if you have a long emergency with no power. It's proved it's worth, and what a great little invention it is.

It does not make me happy when something prevents me from having my coffee! It was not the best day anyway, so at least that worked out well!
