May I ask you a question about your sleep?

Good morning!
My question is if you sleep more than 2 hours a night how do you do it? all month my sleep has me getting two hours a night.
my doctor has given me medicine to take before bed, and this medicine STILL only allows me two hours of sleep-- then the medicine makes me unable to function whenever i get up because i don't get enough sleep and have all that nasty medicine in me. i refuse to take it, my doctor prescribed it again in October but i gave it back to the pharmacy.
now i am having severe problems with memory which i think is from a month or so lacking a lot of sleep. i lose things that are right in front of me.
what do you do to stay asleep? i have no problem falling asleep, it is just staying asleep. i see my psychiatrist today so i am going to beg him to help me without medicine. but i would appreciate mylotters advice
I am also not steady on my feet all the time. Don't worry i have a ride today as i don't drive with many hours of sleep
Have you ever had extended times with very little sleep?

@LovesEverybody I hope you can get a nap sometime during the day. Sleeping 2hours every night will lower your immune system as well as affect your mental state and function

This used to happen to me all the time, before I was out on sleep meds.
But now I'm constantly tired, despite getting decent sleep at night and a couple naps in during the day.

@kris182_2000 Maybe because your body is so used to the meds. does it make problems in your life being so tired? I mean can you function?

No, but I don't think I slept much last night combo of stress, and my stomach hurting. Most nights I do take OTC meds to knock me out though. Make sure your psychiatrist presecribes something for sleep.

i am sorry about the stress and your stomach hurting.
I want to take medicine but they never work out as a zombie would have more energy the next day. but i will see if he will prescribe something milder.
i MIGHT sleep better for a few nights because i am getting another injection today and it is a different medicine than I used to get in my injections before i stopped them
i had my first one with the new medicine last month and slept well for a few days, I feel a little better for the reason it was given. it isn't a sleep medicine though.
I hope you sleep better tonight .

@LovesEverybody Thanks, I should. I wish I could motivate myself to see the car, as tomorrow is likely to be cold and windy, but not as bad as Friday. However, I really don't feel well enough to do that. I need a day to recuperate and a good night' sleep before I go up there. Why don't you try looking at youtube video for sleep. YOu need a sleep regimen.

I feel bad that you're struggling with not getting enough sleep. i can understand that the medication makes you feel worse so you don't want to take it. The only thing I do if I wake up and have trouble falling back asleep is I listen to music. Most of the time it works and I fall back asleep.

Yes, this has been over 30 years of problems for me.. I've gone through many times like you have mentioned. Even if I get 6 hours of sleep, I feel sick all day long. I get the chills, muscle aches, and it's all I can think about. And then there's the added pressure of "I HAVE to sleep tonight" which doesn't help. I think one has to simply increase the PROBABILITY, because all it takes for me is one little thing, and then it's .... For example, I have to get up about three times to use the bathroom, so it's like another battle, having to go back to sleep. I keep my eyes closed, and feel my way.. I have a fan going to block out (some) outside noise.. I turn my phone off by about 5pm, sometimes earlier, because I don't want anything to bother me, including a telemarketer or whatever.. especially picking it up hoping it's someone I want to talk to (never is)... I take a shower around the same time. I do a few other things to help me relax. I try not to watch anything too exciting before bed, but lately, I've been breaking my own rules because I don't want to watch boring things I've seen a thousand times.

@LovesEverybody You're welcome. I came back here to also mention the temperature of your room. For me, I can sleep easier if the room is cold. I even put this plaque I have right over my vent in my bedroom, because I'm sure the heat will be activated tonight.
For me, doing the "relaxing" (there's many different things) things, I would do it an hour or so before bed... It might help to watch boring things before bed. Oh, and I also try to stop listening to music by around 5pm, because I'm so addicted to music, it can get into my head before bed, although I think it's reverse; I think having anxiety causes me to have this tendency to have a song I last played to go on forever.
I do think it's best to wait until you are falling asleep to go to bed, but I notice I will wake up at 7-8am regardless, and this might be due to the light, although I go so far as putting tin foil over my windows.
I feel a little vulnerable saying some of this, but I know how bad it is to lack sleep, so I'll share some.. I watch this show (up until about a week ago) of a western sit-com.. I also edited handfuls of shows when the characters are outside in the 1880s sleeping outside in the cold, etc., which puts one in the frame of mind sleeping. And then one can observe what works. I try to think of this the minute I go to bed to get into that frame of mind even further, but I think the detachment from my own life might help.
EDIT: I don't take my own advice, but try to meditate about an hour before bed.. Unfortuntely, I try to do this in bed, but it's usually too late, since I'm usually in a panic (rhymes with manic) when I want to medidate, and if you prepare, I'm sure it will help...

i have to wake up several times during the night to go to the bathroom. the first time i get up i get manic as my doctor and case manager think i am somewhat manic
i am going to have to do some relaxing things before bed.
It has been a long time since i stopped watching good things before bed
I am going to start taking Abilify pills again along with the same medicine in an injection form. my doctor hopes the two forms of the medicine combined will help me stay sleeping. i couldn't get to the pharmacy but i used to take that medicine and dose and was taken off. i still had a bottle of it that i am going to start taking tonight.
thanks for the super advice. i need some relaxation things before bed

Good morning! It sounds incredibly frustrating to deal with such prolonged sleep difficulties. I'm glad you're seeing your psychiatrist today; they might offer alternative solutions or strategies.
To stay asleep, some people find success with practices like creating a calming bedtime routine, avoiding screens before bed, or using relaxation techniques such as meditation or breathing exercises. If you haven’t already, you might also try experimenting with your sleep environment—adjusting the room temperature, using blackout curtains, or adding white noise.
I’ve had periods of poor sleep, though not as severe as yours. It’s tough, but I hope your psychiatrist can help find a non-medicinal approach that works for you. Hang in there!

Vince puts oil of lavender on a handkerchief under his pillow and swears it helps him sleep. Some of these old wives' trales might be worth trying. I hope you get some help somehow.

I don't have any suggestions or answers to be honest.
But I just wanted to chime in that I have had sleep issues most of my life due to anxiety and depression and other psych issues. My doctor is aware but other than my usual psych meds, which do help some, there's not much else that helps me.

@LovesEverybody I'm bipolar as well. The manic phases are the worst when it comes to sleep for me.
