At least this is a good counterbalance to that country song I just posted. If you’re wondering (or even if you aren’t), we’re at songs #77 on the alphabetical lists of my favorite charted songs. Here’s one that “everybody” knows.
Take It to the Limit - Eagles
Also known as “the biggest hit the Eagles had that didn’t have Henley or Frey as lead vocalist.” Yes, this is it. (The second-highest peaking song by another vocalist was “I Can’t Tell You Why,” with Timothy Schmit on lead vocals, which reached #8.) Randy Meisner took charge, and boy did he. What a vocal performance!!!
Actually, this song was part of his decision to leave the Eagles. I would imagine that hitting those high notes night after night is taxing on the vocal cords. Well, in Knoxville on the Hotel California tour, Meisner said he didn’t want to sing it during the encore because of that. Glenn Frey more or less ordered him to, and things came to punches.
When Meisner released his first solo album he included a revamped version of this song. No, this is the version to enjoy for all time.
PS: you can’t plan anything like this, of course, but today (November 20) is Joe Walsh’s 77th birthday. Glad he didn’t sing lead on this.
Take It to the Limit
Written by Randy Meisner, Don Henley, and Glenn Frey
Recorded by the Eagles
From One of These Nights, 1975
Peak chart position: #4
Today’s country song: “There’s a Big Wheel”

@JudyEv You never know when these little tidbits just pop up in your head at the weirdest of times. "Now, how did I know that?" often utters from my lips. It's probably from myLot posts and other things I long forgot about, but that my brain still held onto.

I remember the former host of "America's Top 40' radio host Kasey Kasem saying that the Eagles band members would get into studio fights which inspired them to record their hit songs.

The second (and final) time I saw them was at the University of Florida. It was an outdoor concert. They arrived at the stage in five different limousines. Yeah, they had their fights.

@FourWalls I have heard stories of singing groups having locker room fights before shows.

@FourWalls I'd have given her some SERIOUS jazz if she'd have plopped a nope on this one. Might even be worthy of a beat down. lol

Waiting for Steppin' Out to finish. It's the one that shows Joe Jackson playing the piano. Didn't know what he looked like until now. That's a good Eagles song. Have a good day.

Yes, indeed. Randy had a nice voice for that, too.

In honor of Joe's birthday, I'm tearing out some of the annoying walls around here.

@xander6464 — dynamite, but that requires no imagination the way a chainsaw does.

@TheHorse — one, “Nightingale.” Glenn co-wrote “Take It Easy” with Jackson.

@FourWalls How many Jackson Browne songs did they cover? That was a good era.

One of Randy's greatest moments as an Eagle band member. just a standout tune and one of my all-time favorites to listen to. Never tire of Meisner hitting those high notes. Funny, Timothy B. Schmidt who replaced him also had a high voice and similar sounding tune, "I Can't Tell You Why," which you mentioned in your writeup.
Another Meisner tune "Try and Love Again" was another classic. Sometimes less is more, well at least in Randy's case.

I really liked Tim Schmit better with Poco. Another one of Randy’s songs that I love is “Too Many Hands,” a subtle statement about the environment disguised as a love song.

Very good song. Unfortunately, Meisner didn't want to sing it one night and he got into it with Glenn Frey.
