Where Does The Money Go?

In relation to lifestyle ( living accomodation excluded) - what do you find yourself spending the most money on? Is it food, health, household appliances, entertainment, clothes etc. ? For me it would be food definitely which would include the cost of my health journey. Where l live eating healthy is certainly not cheap. So where do you spend most of your money?

Most of my money goes to doctors and meds and to food. I seldom buy anything else.

Our health does deplete our funds a lot - doctor's visits, transport, meds , tests etc, etc.

@Kandae11 I pay for a small health insurance that will help me cover a hospital at the right time if I get really ill. But the insurance does not cover a single med except the meds given while I´m at the hospital.

@marguicha The public hospitals here give free medications if the prescription is written by a public hospital doctor. If you decide to go private you pay for everything including tests.

My property taxes went up a bit but I'd say that my monthly expenses are higher with the price of food. Theres no such thing as a cheap meal anymore

Money goes all over - food, house and garden maintenance, maids, phone and electricity bills, Fortunately my medicine bills get reimbursed.

Well food always seems expensive when I'm doing the shopping, but then when I overhear what other people are spending... it's pretty good value Health; thankfully I am healthy at the moment so nothing to spend there. Household appliances; all ours are years old and when they need replacing I look around for a second hand one, so not that much gets spent there. Entertainment; well, we all read a lot, luckily there are plenty of good books available second hand. We sometimes watch a DVD which only costs a pound or two. We rarely go to the cinema. We go to the theatre more often but that's because I volunteer there so get discounted tickets. We don't often go on expensive outings, more likely go to a museum (free) or meet friends for a dog walk, or something like that. I guess one of the most expensive things is going to folk music festivals with the girls because of their dancing (but we do get discounted tickets). Clothes; almost all mine are from charity shops or were inherited from my Mum! I shop for the girls in charity shops too, or on Ebay if I'm looking for something specific, although I do buy nice new things for them as well, but not that often. I guess running a car and buying fuel is a big expense. We have downsized to one car and so far are managing OK. I ride my bicycle on shorter trips anyway (basically free). So after all that, not sure where the money goes! You said to exclude accommodation - that is by far the biggest expense because of utility bills and property taxes.

I do wonder how some families make it on the salary they receive. You seem to have most everything under control. I particularly like the option of riding your bike when you can. You save on fuel and the exercise is great - probably one of the reasons you are in good health.

Can't imagine how some survive without budgeting. Apart from that spending sprees are part of their lifestyle.

I should say to the rent of our flat. We just moved here in our new home and so the expenses are much on the kitchen furniture as we have a new kitchen.

I'd say the combination of all of my other bills is where most of my money goes. Between the mortgage, utilities, cable, cell phone, Internet, and everything else, that takes up the bulk.

Conclusion is we must spend money for our needs. Some spend more in certain areas and others very little.

@Kandae11 The basic needs are what cost the most, unfortunately.

A person has to pay the basics before anything else. Housing, utilities, food, transportation costs whether it's a car or public transportation, insurance, medical. None of those things are cheap. There is absolutely no question here as to where the money goes!

@Kandae11 Well, it's difficult in this life to live without ANY money. Even people living off grid or homesteading still have to pay taxes, or buy some things. We can live without a lot of things we think we couldn't, but the way our societies are all set up, you pretty much need some type of income.

My house eats money like its going out of style. Hubby wanted a shed torn down and a new one put up. That is not cheap. Next year: the roof. OUCH. Other big spenders: our animals. Prescription cat food for instance, is a huge bill.
