What the blank to do? I don't want knee surgery. Hubby thinks I should go with it.
We went back to the Orthopedic experts clinic this morning. Went for a second opinion. That guy is an associate of the first guy. He acted like he didn't know anything about my issues. I guess he talked with first guy.
The swollen leg? According to him it has to be heart issues. So far I can't get anybody to do an EKG for a rule out on the heart. He says I have good cartilage. Walk on the flat not steps or hills. Keep up with water exercising. NOT an emergency or must do surgery right now. Could wear compression stockings.
Holy Bat Man. I spent forty five dollars to get not much. On I go. He says I could get a walker so I'd have a place to sit when needed. Must walk.
Right now a nap sounds good. I just ordered another pair of swim shorts so that I would have a back up- the chorline has tie dyed my current pair. Guess I need to go to the pool more.

Don't you have a primary doc that can order an EKG, or can refer you to someone who will? My uncle was kicked in the leg by a cow at some point in his life, and had a huge amount of trouble with that leg getting red and swelling the rest of his life. He got clots in it too I think a time or two..which landed him in the hospital. Maybe you should deal with the swelling issue, before considering the knee surgery, because that is quite abnormal.

@sallypup If you have adequate blood flow in your legs,,sounds like that would rule out s heart issue..but I am no doc..if you get lightheaded, have palpitations or chest or arm shoulder or neck pain I would worry

@snowy22315 I do get light headed easily and yes to neck and shoulder pain. I believe I have at least carpal tunnel. I need to drink water more.

@snowy22315 My county has huge issues with getting MDs not Nurse Practitoners. I have an NP but am currently switching to somebody else cause I don't trust her. I have had an ultrasound done on the leg. No issues were found with blood flow. I want to find somebody who will allow me to get an EKG done as a rule out on my heart.

@sallypup I agree! I was advised when I was in my 40's that I needed knee replacement. Nope, that didn't happen and I am still not planning on having it done. I'm not that miserable. I've dealt with a lot of pain in my life and will until it is unbearable and then seek best options.

It's hard to make decisions on surgeries at times. A fried had a bad knee, really painful. The doctor really kept saying she needed a new one and she said no. I am not saying that this will happen to you--but she woke up one morning and could no longer put any weight on that knee at all. So she ended up having surgery later that day, and was mad at herself for not doing it earlier. It's not always like that, of course. But a person has to think about quality of life sometimes--are you in pain from the knee, does it keep you from doing what you want/need to do...it's all a personal call as to what to do, I know. And, a hard call as well.

@MarieCoyle I hear you. My Mom fell due to her knees being so bad. The Doc had her in for surgery the next week. My left knee is impeding my activities for sure. So is my arthritic back and shoulders etc. Quality of life is a major question for sure.

@MarieCoyle One of my sisters had massive pain after her knee surgery and ended up having it partially re-done. I've heard there is pain and rehab for 6 months to a year. I am in general a mess- arthritic back and shoulders as well as the knee issues. I have been thinking about it and am going to try harder to balance physical things- going to the pool more and finding the energy to walk the dogs, too.

We do have to think about it, whether we want to or not. I am very fortunate to not have knee problems, but I do know people who have had them. I honestly can’t think of anyone who had a knee replacement that was dissatisfied with it. Surgery hurts, of course, but to be able to walk without pain would be worth it to me. As I said, a person has to do what feels right. ![](/Content/images/emotes/happy.gif)

I am so disgusted by these people.
My dad’s doctor told him to go until he couldn’t take the pain. So he did. He told him the same thing for his second knee, and he also said to balance that with not waiting to get to an age where the rehab would be too difficult to stick with. He thinks next year he’s going to do do his second knee finally. The winters are too tough on his knees.
If you do have knee replacement surgery, please do not settle for a surgeon like those two boneheads who were foisted upon you. And if you need me to write sternly worded letters to these bozos, chewing them out for their treatment of you, just give me the address to send it to, and I’ll get a pen out.

@AmbiePam You're on fire and I appreciate you. (Your poor Dad. He needed much more than he got.)
I don't know how long it is going to last but: I have decided to
A. go to the pool 2 to 3 times a week because pool exercise is safest
B go only to the nice AND attentive two gay guys for general medical help
C walk the dogs.
D I've made two appointments in December for physical therapy
Makes me tired reading this.

If you ever do go through with knee replacement, just make sure you complete ALL the physical therapy. I didn't; and now I have limited movement. I hope it all works out for you. Have a good weekend.
