Mindfulness - a new buzz word

From time to time, some words which were once very ‘ordinary’ suddenly seem to become very popular. One such buzz word/phrase is ‘reach out’. No-one says hello any more or contacts or messages. They all ‘reach out’.
Others that have reared their heads in recent years are ‘mindfulness’ and ‘well-being’. Wikipedia’s definition of mindfulness seems as good as any: Mindfulness is the cognitive skill, usually developed through meditation, of sustaining meta-attentive awareness towards the contents of one's own mind in the present moment.
I wonder if it’s not just another way for people to make a lot of money from vulnerable others but that’s probably a bit harsh.
Really, this discussion is just an excuse to put up a photo of the last jigsaw I did. I broke it up before remembering to take a photo.

I can see how working on a puzzle can be meditative--I wonder if more people meditated, if that would lead to a calmer, more compassionate world--

Meta attentive awareness is a phrase one does not hear everyday. We get asked to be mindful in so many ways it gets to be meaningless.

@Dreamerby It's always been in the dictionary. It's a new 'buzz word' not a new word.

@Dreamerby I didn't say it was a new word but a new 'buzz word'. Businesses are now based on 'miindfulness'.

This word has been pushed onto us in recent years. It’s the fix for all mental health issues, apparently. Living in the moment and all that. We are all stressed out, so need to forget all our troubles by just breathing and thinking nice thoughts. It’s big in the corporate world to try and reduce the number of days off sick and increase productivity. Fortunately I’m out of that game now.

@JudyEv I think the new buzz word should be Playfulness. I’m all for playfulness. How about you?

Doing all I do with writing online and blogging I am happy to keep my mind active and always attempt to make sure I remember all I have to do,

Of course, mindfulness infers that we live mostly from our mind.
Maybe we should be mindless, instead, and try to live from our hearts, so that the mind just functions for us as it should, as a useful tool, rather than sharpening it too much through mindfulness, that it just pricks others with its proud pointedness, rather than spreading a message of love instead.

That's a nice puzzle. I find the words that are added to the dictionary every year fascinating. Have a good weekend.
