Sorry Fruit of the Loom

I am never brand loyal, as I have mentioned many times before. For me, it comes down to price most of the time, although as I have also said there are a few exceptions. Nonetheless, Fruit of the Loom socks have been a fair mainstay for me because they essentially did the trick and were always cheaper when I compared prices for other brands. Over the years I have noticed the socks have become thinner and thinner, which wasn't necessarily an issue until now. They have become so thin that they just don't last that long at all anymore, with the heels mostly wearing out and getting holes after a few wears. It's simply no longer economical to buy the Fruit of the Loom socks anymore, and so I will be making a switch. Sorry Fruit of the Loom, but you've lost my business.

Oh yeah. Fruit of the Loom makes tee shirts, socks and underwear and I think even some pajamas. I could be wrong on the latter.

I hate when things that you've relied on for years aren't as good anymore or when you bought that particular bra for years; and they discontinued it. lololol Have a good day.

@porwest My freezer is from the 80's, but not from J.C. Penney! I've been waiting for it to go out! Knock on wood with ya!! That was a good buy!

@porwest Yup. The older appliances lasted forever. I have a J. C. Penney chest freezer from the 70s. Knock on wood.

It gets harder and harder to find any value anymore. I am still fit to be tied over my chest freezer going out after just five or so years. It really grates on me.

You should get your hooves trimmed. Then your socks would last longer. I have Fruit of the Loom undies.

@porwest Do you have thick calluses on your heels? Or do you just shove your feet into your shoes without unlacing them (shoes)?

Well, if it were the toes wearing out I'd be hearing you. But it's the heels. This makes no sense they are wearing out so fast except that the material is so thin.

@BarBaraPrz No. Not really on either count. As for my shoes, I don't wear laced shoes.

I've noticed that too! Fruit of the Loom was one of those standard brands you could always count on . . . I agree their products have become crap.

@porwest I haven't really scrutinized Hanes yet, but I have a feeling it will go that way too.

@much2say I haven't bought Hanes in a while. My guess is their quality has probably gone down too. But it's everywhere. Hard to find anything that lasts anymore.

They really have become that. It's no longer presenting value when quality is such that the cost savings doesn't outweigh the frequency with which you have to replace the item.

Something similar to “shrinkflation,” I guess, “quality-flation.”

It seems to be the case with everything. From clothes to appliances to almost everything. Nothing is made like it used to be or last like it used to.

@porwest — Merle Haggard once sang, “I wish a Ford and a Chevy would still last ten years like they should.”

@FourWalls lol. Hey, they've gotten better. And as I always like to point out, Ford has been the #1 best selling truck in America for over 4 decades. It can't be without a good reason.

I haven't heard of this brand but it's a practice that happens pretty often. What's really suitable one time changes by the next time you buy it.

@porwest I don't frequent any clothing shops but I don't recall seeing the brand anywhere.

No Fruit of the Loom in Australia? That seems surprising to me.

Always. But of course we do. As the old saying goes, it takes years to build a loyal customer and only seconds to lose one. I guess they don't get rule #1.

I have only known T shirts of that brand. And my experience with the brand is that they are inexpensive but do not last long.

Maybe they don't sell the socks in Chile? But Fruit of the Loom makes socks, underwear and tee-shirts as well as sweatshirts, sweat jackets, and sweat pants

They have just gotten to be so thin. I noticed they were getting thinner, but they were still lasting a reasonable amount of time. That is no longer the case, and so saving a few bucks isn't worth it anymore.

I believe a lot of companies are stretching their dollars and manufacturing less qualitative stuff,

I bought some Fruit of the Loom undershirts for my bf a while ago and they were not like they used to be. They seemed thinner and tighter. Maybe there really is something going on with them.

I think they have simply reduced the amount of cotton they use in their stuff, and other materials as well. The socks used to be much thicker.
