Butter recall

Costco had to recall its Kirkland butter because it did not have on its packaging that it contains milk. Apparently including milk in the ingredients list is not enough. A product has to have the phrase “contains milk.” I wonder what they did/will do with all that recalled butter… I’m assuming they have to include the phrase “contains milk” in case they get sued by someone who may be allergic to milk. But if you see milk in the ingredients list then the product clearly contains milk in it and that phrase should not be necessary. It is up to the consumer to read the package ingredients before buying and consuming a product. If they fail to read it then it’s on them and the company should not be held responsible if anything happens.

I am in agreement with you that a customer should read the package ingredients before purchasing and not point fingers at the company.

Some people don’t bother to read the label, especially if in a rush.

I am lucky that way I am not allergic to anything, I love ordering salted butter. Too bad I can't get any of that butter, I sure hope they put it to good use,

I prefer salted butter to unsalted one. I’d assume unsalted butter is more for baking use.

Too many dummies these days. Same with labels on things like bleach. Yes, common sense tells us that it is toxic and harmful, but we have to have the warning.

I agree. A lot of waste I'm thinking.

They don't make the ingeredents list easy to read. And, some people can't read it. I know I wouldn't be able to. So now, companies will put the possible algeries in larger print which makes it easier to see.

Butter is made of milk. If it is not made of milk, then it should be labeled plant-based or vegan or anything

I agree with you. It’s ridiculous what these flimsy lawsuits have caused companies to put on their products. I mean because of the TikTok challenge where people ate Tide pods, Tide started doing warning commercials not to eat them. How stupid.

It’s like those little packets we sometimes find inside handbags sold in stores or in packaged foods that says DO NOT EAT. It should be obvious it can’t be consumed especially when it’s found inside a handbag.

It's getting a bit ridiculous having to list every last little thing. If it's a milk product surely it's going to contain milk.

I can understand if it’s vegan butter to say on the package it’s vegan so people don’t mistake it for real butter. But if it is regular butter no reason to say it contains milk as that’s obvious, especially since ingredients list milk.

I agree with the fact that the consumer should be smart enough to see that it says contains milk, and know that means there is milk in it. But people are so picky and get offended by the dumbest stuff now, it doesn't surprise me that someone threw a fit and now Costco has to recall stuff and "make it right"

Hopefully it can simply be repackaged. I mean, who doesn't know real butter is made from milk?

I surely hope it’s just gonna be repackaged and not thrown out. I hate it when food goes to waste.
