I took a couple of days to see a friend

My friend lives about 2 hours away but at this point she and I are kind of a last of a group. So, I take oral medication for pain. And not just pills, some of them in pill form have corn starch in them, so I take them in liquid form. (I'm sure some of you are tired of hearing about corn... but there we are.) And these are supposed to be medications that help. Probably would help more if I haven't been on them so long. Anyway... I spent 2 nights at my friend's place. She had a small room that had probably been expected to be either a baby's room or a small office - I suspect the latter since it is as far away as a bedroom can get on the first floor. In October of last year I bought a cheap bed and mattress and now I have a bed in there. So, I take this medicine 3 times a day. To try and get this to maintain I have alarms set for every 8 hours. The one I really had to decide on, was staying up to midnight and taking the morning medicine at 8 a.m. or taking the night medicine at 10 and 6 a.m. for the next dose. I chose the latter. While at my friend's, this time, I decided to just take the morning med to bed with me, not IN bed, but reachable. And, this morning, my 6 a.m. alarm goes off and I'm groping for the little bottle and it isn't there. I finally woke up enough to turn the flashlight on my phone and... no medicine. I found it in bed with me. I had taken this stuff in my sleep! I had been known to walk in my sleep, taking medicine... that's a whole new level of... crazy. And how was your weekend?

I was worried you were going to say it disappeared. But that’s freaky, isn’t it. I hope it doesn’t happen again.

Me too! I do sometimes take my medicine with me if I know I'm going to be out. However, this is the first time I took it in my sleep.

You should talk to your doctor about other options, better meds to deal with your pain. I have pain all the time and we have had to tweak treatment plans over the years.

My problem is the corn allergy. I have to be careful of what I take. I have to take both hydrocodone and the gabapentin in a liquid form because the pills have corn starch. So do all the antibiotics so I have to take liquids there too.

@ElicBxn They do over hydrocodone in a pill form with just the hydro. No filler. They also do the same with oxycodone. I have been a chronic pain sufferer for years.

@thislittlepennyearns ahh... they have to put something in it to make it be a pill and that is starch, corn starch is the cheapest and is what they normally use.

I hope that didn't screw up your schedule for the next dose.

No, I just took it at 2 like I normally do. I have been known to be late for meds because I didn't think I would be out as long as I did. On Saturday the 16th I was out until almost 3 then forgot to take it until 5. I did push the night med back a bit, but unless I go to bed really early, I don't want to go to bed before I take it. I have done it, but I try not to.

That's a strange one, but I know people do stranger. Well, hopefully you actually took it and it just didn't wind up in bed.

@kaylachan I am normally a pretty light sleeper, but I have heard that the state you are in when you are sleep walking, or sleep taking medicine it seems, is part of REM sleep and that is when you sleep the deepest.

No, I took it. I kind of remember taking it. But I've dreamed alarms going off before. I had to put my alarm across the room in college because I was turning it off in my sleep. In fact, one morning the alarm woke me up and I was already halfway across the room.

@ElicBxn That's one way to make sure you don't oversleep. Alamrms never worked for me especially since I had odd sleep patterns.

Sounds like your body is getting addicted to it. Time to talk to your doctor

I think it was just too easy to get to. This morning, I had slipped so far down the bed it felt like I was climbing a mountain to get to the fridge I had it in.

@rakski well, if I have to do either of those, I won't be able to go back to sleep. At home I have it a bit less convenient. I didn't do it the night before. I really don't know why I did it Saturday night.

@ElicBxn maybe you can place the meds in a spot that's reachable but not too convenient, like on a dresser or nightstand, something that requires you to fully sit up or even stand to reach.

People worry too much about sleep walkers. They seldom have their eyes closed, it is a sort of disconnect between the brain and body. In fact, my friend's brother will wake up and discover he's gotten some food and there it is in bed with him. Or he's changed clothes or things.

Yeah. I never did anything stranger than this. I did used to let the dog out of my room in my sleep, she would then wake up my parents to get let out. Hard to punish someone if they aren't awake and aware of what they are doing.

Oh! I was worried that it was not there and you had to skip your dose. Glad that you found it. My weekend was good. I am having this new weekend on Friday and Saturday since June. Sunday is working for me, but this is relaxed as I work from home on Sunday and the hours are less with enough break in between to enjoy time with my family.

I've skipped doses before. In fact, this round of medication I did end up not having the hydrocodone for a day because of running out and the pharmacy not getting it. They don't keep the liquid on hand. I have had to go to a different pharmacy to get both of them at some point, thankfully not at the same time.
