Yeah, yeah, I know. Just shrug, give me the “are you out of your mind” remark, and we’ll move on. Tomorrow will be better. Here’s today’s song on my list of favorites that charted in country music.
Three Steps to the Phone (Millions of Miles) - George Hamilton IV
There is no accounting for taste, is there. This is not a song that most people would like. I’m pretty sure that many die-hard George Hamilton IV (again, no relation to the tanned actor) fans don’t know this one.
When I was a kid, RCA had this habit of releasing “sample” albums, with songs from various artists. It was like a vinyl mixtape! One of them had this song on it, and I fell in love with it. I can’t shake it, either.
I’m sorry.
Three Steps to the Phone (Millions of Miles)
Written by Harlan Howard
Recorded by George Hamilton IV
From To You and Yours, 1961
Peak chart position: #9
Today’s rock song: “There Won’t Be Anymore”
We were very happy and you loved me:

No surprise at all. Probably people with the 45 or album who don’t remember it.

I think it’s the ingrained notion to never say no to a song written by the man who wrote “Busted” and “I Fall to Pieces.”

Charlie Rich sang coded messages so you can’t hear them in Canada.
