Wrong label on meat

I love (bone-in) lamb shoulder chops. I usually fry them in a cast iron skillet. They cook in under eight minutes and are so good. I pair them with couscous or bulgur. Sometimes I do baked sweet potatoes or regular potatoes (white, or small mixed potato) and fry up some mushrooms as well. Makes for a delicious dinner.
Our Stop & Shop supermarket sells them for $8.29 per pound. When I picked up a pack of two chops on Sunday I noticed that the price was $22.49 per pound. That’s a difference of $14.20 per pound. No way did the price go up so much. I looked closer at the label and noticed that it said lamb rib chop and not lamb shoulder chop. Whoever did the price labels made a mistake and put in the code for the wrong cut of meat.
I put this pack down and looked at others. They all had the same mistake on them. I found someone in the meat department and told him what happened. He couldn’t help me with the price issue but he said that he will take all the shoulder chops off the shelf and bring them downstairs.
I went to customer service to see if they can adjust the price for me as I wasn’t going to pay $22.49 per pound for them. They were able to do that. Instead of spending $26.76 on two lamb shoulder chops I spent $9.86. That’s a very big difference in price.
It’s really important to look at price labels before buying something. Wonder how many people had already purchased these chops at the wrong price. And how many would have done it had I not discovered the issue and the meat wasn’t taken off the shelf to redo the price labels.

Glad to hear that customer service helped you. It is important to be aware. You never know what is next on the stupid list.

The guy that I talked to in the meat department wasn’t even sure customer service would be able to help me.

Yes. I’m glad I caught the high price on the label. I hate overpaying, especially by a lot.

Sometimes the shelf price says one thing but the item scans differently. Usually it’s higher than the shelf price.
Hubby bought ice scream I think a few weeks ago. Should have scanned at $3.29 but it scanned at $3.49. He didn’t look at the receipt after he paid. I noticed it when I looked at the receipt after he came home. It was already too late to go back to the store for refund of the difference.

What shocked me was that all the packs of lamb shoulder chop had the wrong price label. I guess people in the meat department don’t double check what they are doing.

you handled the situation really good
it happened many times here that workers forgot to remove the sale prices under the articles and people buy them, only to realize the price is regular again when they're about to pay for it. sometimes it feels like they do it on purpose...

Who knows? Maybe they do do it on purpose. I was at a different store yesterday and I bought a yogurt drink (ayran). It scanned at $2.69 when the shelf price said $2.49. I said that to the cashier and she had someone go and check that it actually was $2.49 and then she adjusted the price.

When people are in a rush they may not bother to check anything. And that’s bad.

Probably more people left them because they were too expensive.

Seemed like they were just put out because usually when I go to get them there aren’t that many on the shelf.
