Happy Thanksgiving Eve to everyone in America! If you’re traveling, please be safe. If you’re staying home, please be safe. If you’re listening to this song, please be safe. Here’s the next song (#84 out of 100) on the list of my favorite songs to make the Hot 100. Hope you remember this one.
The Things We Do for Love - 10cc
Welcome to another one that my mom loved! Mom would spend time in my bedroom, where I had to listen to rock and roll quietly because my dad vehemently disapproved, and she heard a lot of these. I had a playlist on my first iPod for her, and this was on it. (She also liked a lot off Elton John and Linda Ronstadt. Another song that Mom loved will be along soon, so you can see my mom was cool.)
This is commonly known as “10cc’s other hit.” Lyrically, ‘I’m Not in Love” was hilarious; however, I just couldn’t stand the music to it. This one was much better in the melodic regard, and still retained that 10cc humor they were quite well-known for (“communication is the problem to the answer”).
According to Picky Wedia, original members Lol Creme and Kevin Godley hated this song. After they left the band, remaining members Graham Gouldman and Eric Stewart were free to revive it.
Like the other hit, this one made the top 10. While 10cc had more success in their native England, this was their second and last “big hit” in America. A pity.
The Things We Do for Love
Written by Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman
Recorded by 10cc
From Deceptive Bends, 1976
Peak chart position: #5
Today’s country song: “Too Late to Worry, Too Blue to Cry”
A compromise would surely help the situation:

The other hit? They had loads of hits over here and were one of my favourite bands of the 70’s. The songs were all so very different and had great lyrics. I’m Not in Love was by far the biggest hit, but I loved Rubber Bullets, Dreadlock Holiday and Art For Art Sake. My favourite though has to be Life is a Minestrone. Brilliant!
Minnie Mouse has got it all sewn up!
