I just went online to order more canned meat. This 14 oz can is now over $17! Before it was under $9. The 28 oz cans weren't even this much money before! And it has only been since October!! DAMN!! Gonna have to look where else I can get this. Very disappointed, especially since this is supposed to be domestic beef, not imported. Some companies are raising prices now in anticipation of tariff increases, but that shouldn't be an excuse for domestic products. Don't know the reasoning, but it had better not be excused as tariff anticipation. UPDATE - went online and did a Google search and found these same cans priced at under $6 - AT WALMART!! Same store. Had to go through Google to find the same priced I paid before. Just doing a Walmart search didn't bring them up. Sounds like sneaky goings on to me.

Why not just buy fresh ground beef? It is like the same price

Fresh ground beef is actually cheaper. Consider that the can is 14 ounces, not 16, then do the math on it. You will hit the floor. lol

Because when I bought it, there was supposed to be a dock worker's strike along the east coast that would affect all kinds of foods. So I decided to stock up since I didn't have room to freeze a bunch of meat. But, now I like it because I don't have to stand at the stove cooking the meat. I just make the recipe with the already cooked meat. I have a hard time standing for long periods of time, so it works for me.

Sometimes you have to do the digging to find what you're looking for. And, we import everything even the ggrain and such we use to feed the animals.

Well, once someone's tariffs kick in, that'll raise our prices tremendously since we pay them, not the foreign country like some think.

@jerzgirl Well, depends on what it is. You can't stop inflation, no matter what you can do. You just hope that things balance out.

Actually, this particular brand is grass fed beef, raised and processed in the US. It is not loaded with anything, it’s stated to just be cooked beef and sea salt.

I didn't even know they sold ground beef in a can! That's expensive, even at $9 a pound! I also don't think it would be very good with the additives in it for preserving it.

@jerzgirl I will be sticking to fresh. Don't need the additives and unknowns in there.

The regular priced cans are closer to fresh meat prices. When you add that they cooked and canned it, it's about the same. Saves so much time!

Is that raw ground beef or cooked ground beef?

They're all cooked. Seasoned and tender.

Canned hamburger. I wonder how greasy is it?

The fat has solidified, so if you want you can just pick it out. I prefer to keep it because it adds flavor.

@sallypup I don't think they use that "glop" any more. McDonald's stopped putting it in their burgers. I stopped eating their burgers because it dropped down the sides of the meat and coagulated onto the bun. I still don't eat most of their burgers, but they don't have that anymore.

@jerzgirl I for sure am not telling my hubby about canned burger. He has issues with anything to do with animal fat these days. I use some oil for frying onions and mushrooms but nothing to do with animals. 'That sounds like the canned ravioli that my Mom bought us kids back in the day. That stuff had pink glop on it when you opened the can.

I'm a big fan of being prepared, but canned ground beef sounds disgusting as heck. Really like the most disgusting thing possible. It woul dbe cheaper to buy your own ground beef, and self can it.

If I had the proper equipment, yes. But this Keystone brand is surprisingly good. Very little water added.

@thislittlepennyearns No. Years ago, I canned tomatoes. But meats require a pressure cooker and I can't afford one and don't really like using them after seeing my mother's Vesuvius applesauce all over the kitchen. Scared the hell out of me. I was little and don't know if she had jars in it or was just cooking the apples down. If they were jars, then something drastic happened inside the pot. She ran me out of the room and tried to deal with it. I was scared it would blow up on her. But the new all in one cookers are really great. Just not big enough to pressure cook Mason jars. Mom's big hot water canner is in the basement somewhere.

@jerzgirl It's still got a bunch of added crap to it. Do you have mason jars and a large pot. It doesn't take any fancy equipment. Just some patience.

There is no way in hell I'd ever pay $9 for that let alone $17. Not even $6. That's just robbery any way you look at it. I mean, at $9 that's $10.28 per pound. At $17 it's $19.43 per pound. Even at $6 it's $6.87 per pound. At best ground beef in the meat department is $4 to $5 per pound, although the average price I can usually get it for is under $3 per pound on sale. You might as well just buy filet mignon and send it through a grinder. lol

Ground beef around here is at $4.95/pound (lowest price I've found and only in one store. The rest are a dollar or more higher.). So $6 for 14 oz isn't really that much different, especially with it already cooked and canned.

@jerzgirl I would never pay that cooked or not. But of course, that's not up to me to decide. I'm just a guy on the Internet with a big mouth and opinions.
