Question: Do you find deadlines stressful or motivating?

I must say that having deadlines is what makes me motivated. The feeling of stress is part of it. The more I was being challenged, the more I wanted to perfect the tasks assigned to me. At present, I do not have deadlines for being a virtual teacher. I can do the studentsevaluations right after the classes. There are times that I want to work offline again. However, I need more time to think it over. If ever, I prefer working again with non-government organizations (NGOs). Which would you prefer: timely submission of imperfect work or flawless work that is a bit late? Image Credit: clearconceptinc.ca

It depends...this month, I have made it stressful for myself...:( I planned to complete 1. Change Dad's address in identity card here... 2. Get Dad's health insurance with it... 3. Get Encumbrance record of one of the properties.. 4. Pay advance tax 5. Fix mosquito nets in one of the properties ..because tenant suffered with Dengue a few months ago - two days 6. Get some water proofing done 7. Visit a temple and donate some amount - will take a whole day and lots of planning because dad has to stay alone after his stroke. 8. Complete rental agreements...a day's job again 9. Get borewell repaired...day's job 10. Complete Aunty's pension job....two days... 11. Pay my health insurance amounts You see...it has become quite stressful...so far managed only the third in the list...Been twice for the 1st two, but server was down. I can defer some works to the next month....but I will have other chores so I would rather do all these this month...which does make it stressful.

Timely submission is more valuable than perfection delivered late. Late submissions are like second chances—rare and often unavailable. In many cases, even the best work turned in late will not earn full credit. On the other hand, submitting on time, even with imperfections, increases the likelihood of achieving a better grade. Meeting deadlines demonstrates reliability and ensures you make the most of the opportunities available.

You have a point. For example, doing reports, findings, etc. should be submitted on time, especially if the person is working in the hospitals.

I find deadlines stressful. I always felt a fear that I will not meet expectations. Also, that you are on a time frame which you cannot control. When one does not have complete control over a situation it can cause stress. I'm retired now, so my stress is different. Like completing day to day tasks like paying bills on time, making medical appointments, preparing tax information, and shopping for everyday necessities. Even when you're no longer working it seems stressful situations never go away.

I can understand what you are pointing to. When I was still working offline, I tend to finish my tasks before the deadlines. In this way, if there are the things needed to rectify, then I can able to them before the deadlines come.

At some point, I am more driven to do the tasks under pressure. All the brain juices need to be triggered while doing them before or on deadlines.

Well for 1 I don't like being stressed out while I work, I don't function very well, that's why I do things way ahead of whatever time I have to be ready for certain things.

I can relate to you. Working in such a manner makes me pre-occipied to other things that needed to be done. I used to do the checklist when still working offline. In this way, I will not be rattled to do my tasks accordingly.

I can feel you. Working online eliminates the need for daily reminders about my tasks. The students' feedback during the classes was all submitted after finishing the class sessions with them.

I don't like deadlines. Time managment isn't my thing. I'm getting better at it , but making sure my husband takes a pill, vs having some work-related thing to do, are two different things. I like knowing I have time to get something done. Sure it might make me want to put things off, but I also know that it needs to be done in a timely manner. I just like chosing when that is.

I can I say my dream and goal is to always do my job ahead of time so when there is corrections it can be easily notice and corrected. But I am guilty that deadlines gets me more motivated and work harder and gets the things done better and faster. Guilty me!!! But to be honest there are special times that this is not really advisable specially when the job is very sensitive and delicate.

I agree with you. I also do my tasks in advance and rectify things if there are some things need to be rectified. As much as possible, it should be done in a rush way.

I must say, deadlines aren't for me; more so if these are multiple tasks where the set deadlines are so near apart.

I understand that deadlines are helpful to most people, and that companies thrive on them. However, I hate them. They make me feel like a trapped rat. I need to feel relaxed to give my best.

There are times that I feel being abused and exploited by the employers. Unfortunately, it is inevitable not to have these people.
