Inflation is killing gifts!

I know we've all seen and been affected by inflation for a good while now. Seems like everything at the grocery store is higher each week. Every year for many years I've made sugared peanuts at Christmas. They're a good snack and I usually make goodie bags with other sweets for gifts for the kids. Last year a five pound bag of raw shelled peanuts was $11. Today it was $28! That's outrageous. I sure hope everyone enjoys them at Christmas. Is there anything you've seen with such a terrible price increase during the holidays? BTW merry Christmas!

Wow! That is crazy! The only thing here that I have noticed that has double or more than doubled is the price of eggs. My chickens are not laying right now and I was forced to buy a dozen for Thanksgiving desserts. The cheap ones were $6-7 a dozen and they went on up to $12.99!!

Eggs are expensive here too They were kind high, and then that avian flu kicked in, and the went up more. I am in a demographic that was really helped by the Biden administration, in spite of some inflation at the grocery store. I am middle class (not rich and not poor) and am working again, as much as I want. My retirement savings have exploded in value, and my work raises have outpaced inflation. I am a thankful man.

@kareng Has the price of chicken feed gone up? Of course you feed the hens even when they don't give back in eggs, too.

I know they freeze well, but I might have to rethink some of the goodies I make next year, lol.

@1creekgirl It's love first and sweets second. My Mom used to go all out at Christmas time when I was little.

That's nuts! (ha ha) I wouldn't pay that much. I only bought 3 gift cards; so I haven't noticed any big increases. Merry Christmas to you too! Have a good weekend.

@LindaOHio The new hearing aids seem to be good. They pair with my phone with Bluetooth, but they're a learning curve.

We can barely afford to feed ourselves. When we get groceries, we can get the bare minimum, maybe like 6 items to squeak by and it's still $45. And I still haven't bought any gifts for Xmas but I need to since I have kids but it's hard. Every item, even the cheaper ones are at the lowest $25.

11 to 28 is way too much ! We sometimes see 20 to 30 % or a bit more price rise in Onions, Pulses and a few veggies but not in such 100 to 200 % rise in prices. I wonder if such an inflation is due to higher demand or is it due to lack of supply side management? Well, only Governments can tell !!

Everything is on the rise, except for our wages. It is a very difficult time. I look at my savings and wonder if it will help should this occur again when I am retired, and I frown when I look at the interest rates being paid.

Increases used to be gradual, but they've been shocking for a couple of years now.

Not here. But eggs did go up a bit over the last month or two. Gas is down again, so I'm going to snap up at least half a tank.

As you said, everything is up. I noticed at the store I shop at the eggs and milk seem to change prices almost weekly. Sometimes higher sometimes lower--and that is when I get our eggs.

I don't bother looking at prices. Although I did notice that when I did go to Aldi with George, we spent twenty bucks on 3 laundry detergents. When we went at the begining of the year, that twenty got a gallon of milk and three detergents. So, maybe I have.
